Fresh Hub Houston

In the United States, up to 40% of food is wasted, according to the NRDC. While a staggering number of meals are being tossed into the trashcan every day, there are thousands of low-income families living in food deserts who would appreciate that wasted food. Food deserts are areas where inhabitants lack access to healthy, nutritional food. In Houston, there are over 500,000 residents living in food deserts (USDA). A paucity of supermarkets and large grocery stores causes food insecurity, leading to detrimental health maladies such as diabetes.

During this pandemic, this issue has only been exacerbated. Families are losing their incomes. At-risk populations don't want to risk leaving their homes. Fresh Hub is dedicated to delivering fruits, vegetables, bread, and protein to food-insecure, low-income families around Houston.

Every penny will be used to either purchase more food for families or purchase gloves and masks for our student volunteers to use. We need YOUR help to fight food waste and food insecurity!
