Laura's Cancer/Fertility Fund

Anyone who has met Laura knows two things. Laura is a constant advocate and warrior for women’s reproductive mental health, and her destiny is to be a mom.  The irony of this warrior getting reproductive system cancer is not lost on Laura, but it doesn't help her pay the bills. That what we're for.

The problem is, it's not just the cancer, and the cancer isn't even the half of it. As if cancer isn't enough for a warrior to fight.... When one gets hit with chemo and radiation - as this warrior is about to be - one's reproductive system is no longer going to be able to make little ones.

Laura is literally stalling her battle with cancer, for her only remaining shot at biological motherhood.  When one goes through chemotherapy and radiation, it basically kills one’s ovaries, making her eggs not viable. Radiation leaves one’s uterus unable to carry a pregnancy. So Laura is currently undergoing fertility treatments to harvest eggs and inseminating them in the hopes that freezing embryos that could be used in the future with a gestational carrier.  Put another way, she is taking action to try to freeze these little chances into little frozen options. If luck lines up in her favor, this month she’ll have the option to be a mother after surviving cancer.  She’s taking this action regardless, but the debt is adding up before the cancer treatment starts.

We may not be able to help with luck in Laura’s fight with cancer.  We can't help the luck needed for all the things that have to line up for her last chance for the embryos to make it where they need to be viable. We can send her our thoughts, hopes and/or prayers, and I know we all will.

But in the meantime, please help tangibly, logistically, by helping her pay not only for the intensely expensive cancer treatments that always keep adding up, not only for the self care so she can do what she needs to feel GOOD/to eat well/take care of herself, but most importantly: help so that Laura can afford this one chance that she's got - the chance that might matter most in the world for her - the chance to be a mom.

It's an insurmountable amount of money to any one person. But if we all give what we can - what we often give at wedding showers or baby showers, what we manage to find laying around for that super cute sweater or weekend adventure - if we can each give that, and it's not all on one warrior who should be spending her energy on fighting cancer, sleeping, and eating cheese, then we'll all have done our part to help make this war a winnable one!
