Free the Elephants

Donation protected
Peace family it’s Chakabars here and it’s time we free these beautiful creatures from their chains. It’s been a year since we did a fundraiser together, last time it was for more unfortunate circumstances, but this time it’s so we can create an elephant sanctuary, that you will be able to visit.

The head trainers name is Bin, he is from Surin, he brought the elephants to Koh Phangan for elephant riding. In order to do this the elephants have to be broken and then abused daily, in order for them to let people ride them around so that they can feel special. It’s really terrible, then these elephants are chained up the rest of the time. It’s no life for an elephant. Right now it’s low season, so people just come up giving 60bht (about $1 USD) to feed the elephants a couple bananas and take a picture with them. Jan Peng 48, Tom Hwan 34 and Nah phong 22 are Grandmother, Mother and Daughter in that order. The owner Bin has agreed that he will take them off the chains and keep them off if we build a sanctuary for them. Elephants can live up until 80 years old, I think it would be beautiful for them to spend the rest of their lives free.

We are teaming up with my friends Keivyn and Mimi who will help to run the sustainable sanctuary business & we will use this money to create it. We are also pairing with Maew from Samui Elephant Haven, which is an ethical sanctuary on the sister island about 30 minutes from here. We will use extra money raised to support them, they are doing amazing work. We have been through all the options. Initially I wanted to help to release the elephants into the wild, but where they are from there are many elephants bred for zoos, circuses and riding, so there is competition for food, also the wild elephants regularly kill the domesticated elephants, as domesticated elephants don’t understand territories. Then I was going to buy the elephants from the trainers, but that doesn’t make sense because I won’t be here all the time to care for them. I think a sanctuary is the best option, with elephant pools & shelters to sleep under as they just sleep outside chained up right now. Also maybe with some small accommodations, so you can come stay by and volunteer for the elephants. I could write all day but we will give regular updates, the elephants will have their own socials as they are all amazing, gentle and big personalities. As a man who had ancestors enslaved, I hate to see elephants in these situations. So with your donations we can free them and it will be beautiful, let's make the elephants famous, let’s take care of them, maybe this can be the start of freeing many elephants from bondage. Thank you for being apart of this journey. Sharing is caring.
