Help Mike Freeston come home-Accessibility Reno's
Donation protected
On February 14 (Happy Valentine’s Day), 10 seconds changed my husband, Mike Freeston's life forever. After returning from a lovely dinner with friends, Mike fell while walking through the front door of our house and incurred a severe spinal cord injury. The doctors have diagnosed him with a C3 incomplete quadriplegia, which basically means he has reduced upper and lower extremity weakness and is now confined to a power wheelchair.
The doctors do not know whether he will ever walk again, but he’s working hard to do so. Mike has spent 3 months in Toronto at Lyndhurst Spinal Cord Rehab hospital and is now in a 24 hour care facility in Toronto. He’s been there for 3 months and just wants to get back to North Bay.
Unfortunately, the house we live in is not wheelchair accessible, so we are in the midst of doing major renovations to accommodate his needs so Mike can come home. We are converting an attached garage to be accessible. It will have a barrier free bathroom and a bed/living area. It will require plumbing, electrical, automatic door opener, deck, ramp, overhead lift, doors, windows, and much more. I estimate between 40,000-50,000 to accomplish everything. We have started the renovations so the sooner we receive funds the better.
Our friends have been incredible in their support (offering a listening ear, food, gas cards for travel to Toronto, food vouchers, places to stay, donations, etc) so thank you to all for all you’ve done.
We have been using our retirement savings to help pay for everything, but as you can imagine, our funds are running low. We just need a little extra help now as we move into this new phase in our life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any donation and support.
