Freeing Apolonia

I am privileged to be able to share Lila and Apolonia's story below. Lila and her husband Ellie have been serving in Oaxaca, Mexico for more than 15 years. In 2014 I went on a Missions trip to Mexico and went with Lila to the prison and met Apolonia. She is an amazing woman. Please take consider your part in helping with freeing her.
Lila Quezada met Apolonia fourteen years ago when she was leading a Bible-study in their local women’s prison in Oaxaca. She was attentive and knowledgeable in the scriptures, with a clear love for Jesus. As Lila got to know her through her visits in that prison, and then in another prison when she was transferred across town, she was deeply impressed with her joy and her radiant testimony for the Lord. Though Apolonia had already served many years of a 35-year sentence, she continued to hope in the Lord for her release from prison.
She is now serving her 22nd year in prison, and is a vibrant witness to the love and redemption that Jesus offers. However, “the grace is lifting”on her willingness to live out the rest of her life in prison. Her mother is aging quickly and has several health problems that will need ongoing care fairly imminently. Her father died several years ago and she is feeling anxious to care for her mum while she still can. Her son (who was eleven years old when she was interned) is now in the process of founding a university in Oaxaca (yes, you read that right!). Apolonia paid for his primary and secondary education through her hard work over the years making and selling hand-crafts in prison.
In short, she is an amazing, industrious, intelligent woman who loves Jesus and serves all those around her with His love and compassion. She is a woman of prayer, committed to intercession and evangelism. She is a pastor to all the other women also serving time in prison. But it is time for her to be released!
We have finally been able to retain the services of a lawyer with integrity, but he is not cheap.(Apolonia has spent the last many years under the counsel of cheap lawyers who have accomplished nothing except to rip her off.) To move forward on her case it will require 15,000 CDN - $4,000 immediately and $11,000 over the course of the next several months . We have spent years exploring every other possible avenue for some advancement on her case. Many of you have been praying for her release for over ten years! But because of the legal snafus and misinformation surrounding her file, there is no alternative to actually hiring a lawyer who will actively oversee the process.
