Roberto Alvarez came to the US from the Dominican Republic at the age of 19, looking for a better life 25 years ago. A long-time resident of the US, he has recently been battling mental illness. In November 2016 he was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. As of today he has been languishing in Hudson County Correctional Center in New Jersey because despite their best efforts, his three siblings have been unable to gather the $1,500 to post Roberto's bond. Roberto is entering his eighth month of detention and his mental health is getting worse.
