<div>Jesús* was arrested by the Czech police for bringing a poster highlighting the role of women in the Palestinian liberation struggle to a demonstration on International Women’s Day. After the appeal to drop the charges was denied, we now urgently need to raise funds to cover the legal.

<div>Jesús is now facing a potential sentence of 2 to 10 years in prison.

<div>What costs do we need to cover?
</div>
<div>Jesús’s lawyer initially offered to work pro bono, but the case became more complex, with increased responsibility and workload, and a discounted rate was agreed upon. The lawyer is now charging 1,500 CZK / 60 EUR per hour (a 50% discount).
</div>
<div>We urgently need to cover 10 hours of legal work already completed, including interrogation support and filing the appeal, totalling 15,000 CZK / 600 EUR. An additional fee of an equal amount is needed as a deposit for the next phase of legal preparation, including court proceedings and securing Jesús’s residence permit renewal.

<div>Our immediate goal is 30,000 CZK / 1,200 EUR. Looking ahead to the court hearing and related procedures, we aim to raise at least 100,000 CZK / 4,000 EUR in total.

<div>If we raise more than needed, all surplus funds will go toward a mutual legal aid fund supporting our wider community.

<div>The story of Jesús
</div>
<div>On Saturday the 21st of June, 2025, approximately 12 heavily armed and masked police officers entered a migrant-run community centre in Prague and arrested Jesús, a Mexican PhD student who is an active member of the local pro-Palestinian movement. Jesús was ordered to face the wall while other people who were present (including a 5-year-old child) were ordered to sit down and not move. After handcuffing Jesús and searching their pockets, police placed them in an unmarked black vehicle and transported them to the Regional Headquarters of the Prague Police.

<div>Jesús was released following their interrogation after spending 19 hours in detention. They were welcomed by supporters and members of the Prague pro-Palestinian and Latino communities, who gathered in front of the police headquarters for a spontaneous solidarity demonstration. The charges against Jesús haven't been dropped despite the appeal filed by their lawyer, and the legal case is ongoing.

<div>Jesús argues that their case is a blatant act of intimidation directed not only at them, but at the pro-Palestinian community in the Czech Republic as a whole.

<div>El abogado de Jesús se ofreció inicialmente a trabajar pro bono, pero el caso se complicó, con mayor responsabilidad y carga de trabajo, y se acordó una tarifa reducida. El abogado cobra ahora 1500 CZK / 60 EUR por hora (un descuento del 50%). Necesitamos urgentemente cubrir 10 horas de trabajo legal ya completado, incluyendo el apoyo en el interrogatorio y la presentación de la apelación, por un total de 15.000 CZK / 600 EUR. Se requiere una tarifa adicional por un importe equivalente como depósito para la siguiente fase de preparación legal, que incluye los procedimientos judiciales y la obtención de la renovación del permiso de residencia de Jesús.

<div>La historia de Jesús
</div>
<div>El sábado 21 de junio de 2025, aproximadamente 12 policías fuertemente armados y enmascarados entraron en un centro comunitario gestionado por migrantes en Praga y arrestaron a Jesús, un estudiante de doctorado mexicano, miembro activo del movimiento local pro-palestino. A Jesús se le ordenó que se colocara de cara a la pared, mientras que a las personas presentes (incluido un niño de 5 años) se les ordenó que se sentaran y no se movieran. Tras esposarlo y registrarles los bolsillos, la policía lo subió a un vehículo negro sin distintivos y los trasladó a la Jefatura Regional de la Policía de Praga.

<div>Jesús fue liberado tras su interrogatorio, tras pasar 19 horas detenido. Fueron recibidos por simpatizantes y miembros de las comunidades pro-palestina y latina de Praga, quienes se congregaron frente a la jefatura de policía para una manifestación espontánea de solidaridad. Los cargos contra Jesús no se han retirado a pesar de la apelación presentada por su abogado, y el proceso judicial sigue en curso.
