Free Home Maintenance for Marie Curie Patients

About u
s:

HOPE PROPERTY SERCICES CIC, we are a registered Community Interest Company Here in Glasgow, Scotland.

We came together as experienced tradesman from different trade backgrounds.

After working with each other for some time, we realized we shared a vision about wanting to make a difference to local communities.

This sparked the idea of Hope Property Services.

My Story:

It goes back a few years ago when there was a good friend of mine, a Fellow Gunner in RAF Regiment (a brother lost but never forgotten).

Keith had been diagnosed with a terminal illness at such a young age. Through no fault of his own he had nothing to leave behind to his family, he struggled and worked like any man after coming out of the forces. Unfortunately he lived over 300 miles away.

A group of builders, a band of brothers, got together and made his dying wish come true, a simple one:

To leave his home in a condition where he knew his family would be safe and have a better way of life, something he struggled to afford and provide for them on his own.

I always regret not being part of that renovation and how much of my skills I could have offered to help him and his family

So now I want to offer my help to others out there who are in a similar situation as Keith.

So Why Marie Curie?

My wife Michelle’s grandparents were cared for by Marie Curie. Michelle volunteered at Marie Curie as the charity has always been close to her heart.  She was delighted when she was able to secure a role working for Marie Curie Hospice in 2019. While working there Michelle found a deep love for working with Patients and their families.  Michelle’s is now part of the Marie Curie Palliative Care Team, who visits people in their homes here in Glasgow. Michelle wants to give back to others the same care and compassion that her own grandparents and family received.

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity for people affected by terminal illness. Marie Curie delivers palliative and end of life care directly to people across the UK, both in their own homes and over its nine hospices. Marie Curie care for people living with any terminal illness, including cancer, motor neuron disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  Marie Curie cares for more than 40,000 terminally ill people in the UK per year. Marie Curie help everyone affected by a terminal illness to get the information and support they need, they provide free information and a support service, which helped over 50,000 people in 2018. Marie Curie are leaders in research into better ways of caring for people with a terminal illness.

Financial stress

Evidence from several organizations that work with terminally ill people, as well as testimony from family members, makes clear that being forced onto the Normal Rules process causes significant financial difficulty for claimants and their families, as well as considerable worry and distress.

The significant delays claimants experience while waiting for the DWP to make a decision on Normal Rules claims, as well as the further wait for payments to be made even after a claim has been awarded, can leave people living with a terminal diagnosis – who may have had to give up work and have no other income – in an impossible financial situation.

Terminally ill people in this situation face many of the well-documented issues caused by delays in the payment of benefits – falling into debt or rent arrears; relying on financial support from family or friends to cover their bills; and living with the constant stress and concern caused by being in financial difficulty – all while coming to terms with a terminal diagnosis.

These challenges compound the financial pressures faced by many people living with severe and terminal conditions. Many families affected by terminal illness face significant additional financial burdens, including adaptations to the home or vehicles, additional heating costs, special diets and the cost of care

“The sheer fear of not being able to provide constantly haunts the patient.  Though you’re doing your best you are always aware of the fact that you don’t control all the factors that influence your ability to take care of your spouse.”

“Nothing is more frustrating than for someone to carry the heavy financial load, all while the while their spouse has a debilitating illness. No matter how much you work there’s still the endless bills that aren’t all covered by insurance. You have to generate the income that you would normally earn.  Second, earn additional money to compensate for the fact that your spouse can’t work.  And third, earn even more to pay the bills created by the illness.  And it still isn’t enough!” Basically, you have to work three times as hard because of the illness in their spouse's life.

What We Want To Accomplish:

As our company stands just now we are doing this in Glasgow only, in our own free time at no cost.

As we as a company grow, we want to be able to cover the whole of the UK, covering all areas of Marie Curie hospices.

In order for us to sustain this service we would require some form of additional funding whether it be government or via donations.

All These routes are getting explored as we go along. If you would also like to keep up to date with our progress and how we are doing please subscribe to our web page www.servicehope.com for updates.

What your Donation will do for them.

When a Person  receives the bad news that they have a terminal illness, It not only changes them it effects there immediate family also. everything changes in a instant! and those everyday things become a financial Burdon.

We need your help to continue to give these amazing people and their families a helping hand by taking some of the financial worries away.

We are getting more and more enquires everyday and need help to keep up with our demands not only from our growing customer base but from people in desperate situations who need help.

I currently work from my home and my van is stoked to the gunnels with my tools. "I would rather use our profits for good than pay over the odds for an office and storage.  But its getting Hard we need a store room to keep stock of donations of paint etc we get from our suppliers."

"All we want, is to deliver quality workmanship to not only our regular customers but also to your community as well.”

This is where  we fit in to make a difference!

Our business wants to help the community come together
