Free Five Captive Chimpanzees

Tax deductible
Five captive chimpanzees finally have a chance to be free – but it can’t happen without you.

Five chimps, each a victim of the illegal bushmeat and live pet trades, are currently held in unsafe conditions in Guinea-Bissau, a country in West Africa. Fifi has been kept in a small metal cage for over a decade. Julio is spending his days tied to a window. Tze lives with a chain around his neck, tied to a tree at a hotel. All are completely alone. But now is their chance to be free.

We have been working for a very long time to get these chimps to safety and at last we have a window of opportunity to free them – but we need your help to break open their cages!

They need specialized medical care to keep them healthy for their long journey to freedom. They need special crates to fly between countries. They need a variety of permits and complicated logistical support. Can you help make this rescue a reality?

The Guinea-Bissau Chimps:

Tze spends his days tied to a tree by his neck. Soon he’ll be too strong and powerful for a chain and may be moved to a cage all alone.

No-one is sure how old adult chimp Fifi is, but it is clear that she has been locked in a cage for at least a decade, with no clean water and no company.

Julio was confiscated as a baby, but since there’s no sanctuary in Guinea-Bissau, this young orphan spends every day alone. He yearns for the company of other chimps.

Simao is just five years old and has been kept as a pet ever since his mother was killed for bushmeat. Desperate for any companionship, he calls out from his cage every day, hoping someone will let him out.

Tita is only a baby. Just 18 months old, she spends her days shackled to a tree by a chain. If we can save her now, she is at a perfect age to be rehabilitated at a sanctuary.

With no wildlife sanctuary in Guinea-Bissau, it has been extremely difficult to get these chimps the high-quality care they need. But now, with ground-breaking cooperation from the Guinea-Bissau and Liberia governments, we have everything in place to move them to Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection, a spacious chimpanzee sanctuary in neighboring Liberia. Moving one chimp out of a country is extremely difficult. Five? It’s almost unheard of.

After years of effort, PASA and our partners in Liberia and Guinea-Bissau finally have a chance to break open their cages. All that’s left is your support.

You can transport the chimps to a big, forested sanctuary, where they will receive proper medical attention, expert care and rehabilitation, and the chance to join new families.

Please, will you help save Tze, Fifi, Julio, Simao and Tita? Now is your chance to give these chimps the future they deserve.
