Last Thursday while Ashley was at her shop there was a package brought by a delivery man that was addressed to the man who used to own the business before Ashley ever entered the picture. Ashley knew the name very well since it was addressed to her former boss. The delivery man asked for Ashley to sign for the package, which she did. She then put the package in the shop and went back to work.
A short time later the Thai police raided her shop and found the package, unopened, and addressed to someone else. The package contained MDMA. Since Ashley signed for the package she was arrested and charged with importation with intent to distribute of a class 1 narcotic.
The police searched her shop and found nothing. They then went to her home and searched there where they found nothing. They drug tested her and she came up clean. Yet she was still charged and taken to the Samui prison. The case against her is absolutely horrible - there is no evidence excepting the unopened package addressed to her former friend but because the package contained 250 grams of drugs they are holding her as the one responsible.
There is no question that her case will eventually be dismissed but the Thai courts move painfully slow and she could have to sit there in prison for many months or perhaps even longer until she has her day in court. Thai prison is not like Western prisons. She cannot stay there so long. She is only 21 years old. She is an innocent victim.
