Hi, My name is Jackie Sue Frederick. I am a 24 year old third generation hairstylist and I recently received my EMT certification. I live with my beautiful momma and my two little brothers. Two and a half years ago I quit my job and came back home to be with my grandparents who were having medical problems. Grandpa Jack had fallen, was checked out and we were assured that he was fine. After a couple weeks we found that he was experiencing a brain bleed. They did surgery but his quality of life was not the same and we lost him the day after thanksgiving in 2015. When we lost grandpa, Grandma Sue finally felt ok going to the doctor without feeling guilty( we had been trying for so long to get her to go). After six months of tests, poking and prodding; on our second ER visit the doctor ordered a ct scan of her sciatic area. (where she had been experiencing her pain that was making it unbearable for her to walk). One short hour later he came back with the results that Grandma had a 9cm mass in her pelvis area. Cancer again. This was not Grandmas first battle with cancer or a life threatening illness. She was a fighter, so again I quit my job and we started on a treatment plan for her. Radiation and chemo were just not options for her this time so we researched Rick Simpson oil (derived form the cannabis plant) and got her started on her cannabis oil journey. Her appetite was improving. She pushed out her nerve medications and pain medications. She was doing great and we even had received the news that her tumor was shrinking!  Though all of this, we know that even great warriors get tired after surviving so many battles and at the end of September 2016 she surrendered and joined Grandpa. Now it was just me, mom and the boys. I went back to work and school and we got into our own routine of things. A few months ago we started to fall behind. Being that I had no savings accumulated even after starting work I could not keep up with the many needs that come about when helping my family. I had not been on this end of being an adult yet. Money and the limitations it puts on most every part of life is crazy. I had seen this as a child but you never know the reality until you’re there. Even so Mom and I started to catch up, I moved to a busier salon and was working another job. We were doing very well. Right after going back to just one job and finishing up my EMT course, my car, as well as my moms both took poops on us. I moved to a salon super close to home and we took Uber to and from work for a while (thank goodness it was summer and the boys weren’t in school, everything happens at the right time) We finally decided that we could not waste all of our money on Uber everywhere and we might as well spend what we had saved so that we could at least be mobile in any case of an emergency. To fix both of our cars and to keep up with the bills we exhausted our savings making us unable to keep up. Still this was fine, I could drive again, I was working great hours. I felt well and then on the 31st of July while I was rock climbing; mind you I had just started out on a route bouldering(that’s climbing without a rope but with  a mat underneath you-only up to a certain height on the wall of course)  I was no more than one foot up the wall from the mat when I reached for a hold while putting the weight on the tippy toes of my right foot, all of the sudden my knee felt like it had imploded. I leaned back and fell on to the mat. I just laid there. At first I thought it had just gone out of place like it had before. Maybe this time it was just way worse because it had happened a few months before? I got up and sat myself somewhere and tried to pull myself together. I sucked it up and walked on it until the evening when I could not stop crying from the pain. After the ER visit and only an XRay, all they knew was that there was fluid on my knee and I would need to schedule an MRI to find out if there was anything wrong with the muscle or bone. This was my busiest week at work yet and I was not going to be a part of it. The results for the MRI came back and the analysis was that I had fractured the end of my femur connecting to my knee.  The doctor said initially we would wait 5 weeks to see my progress and when I am healed enough we will talk about physical therapy to strengthen my leg again. Being that I fractured the biggest bone in my body so easily, I have a few(hopefully) more to tests to get done to see why and I will not be able to get back into the salon again anytime soon. Because I cannot help provide for my family in the way that I was, my mom is now working three jobs. I know that this is normal for lots of people but for me that was not something I wanted my mom to have to do. This has personally been a very humbling and eye opening experience for me. Life has many lessons even though we don’t always understand the meaning at first and sometimes we have to learn when we need to open up and ask for help. I’m not starting this for Gofundme for me, I am starting this for my family, for my two little brothers really. They are the future of my family. These boys have not had a proper birthday or holiday in the last 6 years due to everything going on within and without in the world of our family. They may get loud and rambunctious(what kid doesn’t) but they are the smartest and most polite(Gage can be polite too) little gentlemen. I promised and reassured my Grandma before she passed that I would take care of them no matter what and it pains me deeply that I am not able to uphold that right now. They say it takes a tribe to raise a child. I’m just reaching out to my tribe to help us raise these two in a continually comfortably safe environment. I love you all and I appreciate anyone who even takes the time to read the story of our journey.
