Heidi’s 100mile run for Freddie’s dream Wheelchair
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Heidi and I plan to run/crawl/walk the full length of the South Downs Way in 3 days unaided. No friends, no support truck, just me and my rucksack. It’s 100 miles off road from Winchester to Eastbourne, with quite a few hills.. so nearly 4 tough marathons in 3 days. I aim to spend two nights in the Downs and take everything I need on my back. I will carry my tent, clothes, food, water and any bare essentials - (probably some plasters too!)
I’m doing this to raise as much money as I can to help fund an all-terrain wheelchair for my best friends’ son - Freddie.
In 2014 my friends’ world fell apart when her boy was diagnosed with a rare degenerative muscle condition. He is truly the most amazing kid; he’s so loving, so caring, hilarious and kind beyond belief! He has a huge passion for nature and loves being out with his little dog Jess.
I’ve seen how this condition affects him and his wonderful family, and now that he’s 11 years old, life is getting exceptionally hard for them all. He just wants to be out there with his friends. He’s tired of watching from the sidelines. He wants to go to the same places and do the same things as them, but his mobility stops him doing this and his current wheelchair restricts where he can go. I personally saw his face light up when he trialled the all-terrain wheelchair. I saw how happy it made him, and in turn his family too. Freddie deserves this! He needs to have the freedom and independence that all children his age have. He deserves to be able to go for walks in the woods and to be able to keep up with his friends on the beach after school. I want this for him so much, but the wheelchair costs a whopping £20,000!
Freddie’s parents ooze strength and courage. They have dealt with life with such positivity and have never even asked for a shoulder to cry on! But now they need our support to help get Freddie the wheelchair of his dreams.
Freddie’s condition means that life only gets harder. This chair will make a huge difference in coping with the future as it is a chair that will last a lifetime and grow with him too.
My adventure starts on the 6th November – 2020. I’m going to be cold, wet, tired and very scared in the dark on my own, BUT it will be absolutely completely worth it if I can raise as much as possible for this incredible boy. Please, PLEASE donate!- and help me to help my amazing friend and her even more amazing son. I love them dearly.
