Fred Von Tobel, Professional artist, art restorer, and adult coloring book author recently suffered a massive right brain stroke which has left him without the use of his left side. Just prior to the stroke, he underwent thoracentesis of his right lung to treat pneumonia. We are hopeful that his drive and determination will help him make a full recovery. However, he faces lengthy physical therapy, two weeks inpatient followed by months of outpatient visits. Approximately, one month into his therapy he will need to undergo surgery to clear blockage from his left carotid artery, which itself will have at least a month-long recovery time.
As a self-employed artist, if he can't work to complete pending restorations or create new art he has no income and faces having to shut down his art and restoration studio for the foreseeable future. They also face the reality of losing their home and having to move in with his father-in-law in order to have easy access to outpatient care. His wife is serving as a caregiver 24/7 and will be unable to provide for them until he has healed enough to function on his own. They may be forced to file medical bankruptcy. There is no insurance at this time. The hospital is trying to help get something in place, but there is no telling how long that may take or what percentage of the medical expenses it may cover should he be approved. Ultimately, they are uncertain of what the total expenses will be.
As you might guess, this has caused a great deal of stress for Fred, as well as his wife, Renee and sister, Connie. Many of his friends and loved ones have asked how they can help, which is the reason this GoFundMe account was launched. If we could all come together to help relieve the added stress of mounting bills and medical costs, it would go a long way to helping Fred recover from such devastating setback. He has a very long, hard road ahead and any financial help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
