Trumansburg Robotics Team 5254 HYPE

Thank you to everyone who has supported our team during the 2018 FRC Season named Power Up.

As we transition from the end of one season into the beginning of another, we would like to express our gratitude and a warm, heartfelt thank you to each of your for your generous support of Trumansburg Robotics Team 5254 HYPE.

Each season brings new challenges, new opportunities, and opens new doors for the students in our robotics program. Your generous support has proven to be a catalyst for many of the opportunities and accomplishments our program has provided and achieved this past season. Below is a recap of our 2018 Season.

The team has been working hard on a new robot for the 2019 Season. Please visit our current campaign  to help the team compete in the the 2019 Season named Destination Deep Space.

2018 Season Highlights

Looking back, we have grown tremendously as a team and as an organization. Both in our own technical capacity and also in our outreach into the community. This past season, we were able to accomplish so much on and off the field thanks to your generous support. Here is a snapshot of our team’s progress and accomplishments this past season.

• Developed and followed a comprehensive offseason technical and team development training program that included building a new, improved robot for the previous year’s game that won the Engineering Excellence Award at the Tech Valley Robot Rumble off-season competition

• Fresh off the success of our off-season training program, we had a productive and successful build season resulting in the build of a highly functional robot that could score at all levels in the game in both autonomous and human operated periods and climb during the end game

• Competed in the Central NY Regional at SUNY Polytech and the Finger Lakes Regional at RIT reaching the finals in both competitions and qualifying for the FIRST Robotics World Championships

• Competed at the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Detroit and advanced all the way to the finals in our division

• Selected for and competed in the highly competitive Indiana Robotics Invitational competition over the summer and finishing ranked #16

• Lead a scouting alliance of all New York state teams at the Indiana Robotics Invitational competition

• Established a relationship with Cornell University’s Women in Computing and Society of Women Engineers to provide educational outreach and mentoring programs for middle school and high school students in our community

• Awarded grants from the TCSD Foundation to acquire two 3D printers and the Tompkins County Community Foundation to acquire a CNC machine that together, these new machines, will help elevate our team to the next level in our design and fabrication capabilities of custom components

Our Programs Impacts

Our robotics program is so much more that simply building robots. More important than competitive success and awards, is the fact that our members realize the values of STEM while gaining a greater respect for the benefits of a good education.

Our robotics program gives our high school students the opportunity to build foundations essential to engineering such as those in computer aided design and programming; as well foundational skills essential to having productive careers such as how to function as a team, manage project deliverables and communicate project status, and build a product.

Our robotics program provides rigor with relevance that creates a passion within the students to pursue challenges and push themselves to achieve great things. With that in mind, here is a snapshot of some of the impacts our program has had on our students this past season.

• Graduated six seniors, four of which have been in the program since freshman, that are all going on to college and are all pursuing engineering or computer science degrees at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Clarkson University

• Had two of our Juniors accepted into the National Honor Society for their academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement

• Had two of our Juniors, both female, accepted into the highly competitive BOCES New Visions Engineering program for their senior year

Our Future

Again, each new season brings new challenges, new opportunities, and opens new doors for the students in our robotics program.

Looking forward, as we enter our sixth year, we are HYPE’d for the upcoming season to further expand our technical, organizational, and personal developmental programs.

Thank you again for your generous support of our community supported program.

Trumansburg Robotics Team 5254 HYPE
has quailifed for the 2018 FIRST Robotics World Championship  in Detroit on April 25-28th.

The team was the Captain of our Alliance and advanced  all the way to the Finals at the Central NY Regional on March 2-4th at SUNY Polytech.  We also made it all the way to the Finals at the Finger Lakes Regional on March 15-17th at RIT.

We are now working super hard to improve our robot and to raise funds to hit a strict deadline for the event registration fee ($5000) and the travel costs (>$15,000) for the team to get into and to the 2018 FIRST Robotics World Championship  in Detriot.

Robotics Team 5254 HYPE
consists of high school students and mentors from the community competing in the international FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Our robotics program gives students a practical outlet to pursue an interest in science, technology, engineering and computer science beyond the classroom. Our robotics program plays a critical role in expanding the STEM and Leadership programs available to the high school students in our rural district.

We Create Opportunities For Students To:
- Build and compete with a robot they design and build
- Work alongside professional engineers
- Learn to use professional hardware and software
- Develop skills such as engineering design, project management, programming, web and multimedia development, business development,
teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking
- Qualify for over $50 million in college scholarships otherwise inaccessible outside of FIRST

Our team is 100% community supported and is built upon a partnership which provides an exchange of resources and talents between local businesses and the community.

This campaign is setup to allow community members, our friends, and family a vehicle to support the bright young minds of Trumansburg Robotics Team 5254 HYPE as we prepare to compete in the 2018 FRIST Robotics World Championship
