Frank's Fight with ALS

Help us in supporting Frank's fight.   Frank Wollak, a Detroit Catholic Central Alumni (Class of 1975), was diagnosed with ALS in January 2018. Frank and his wife, Ann (Wisniewski) Wollak, were both born and raised in Detroit.   They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in September 2017.   They have 3 children, Kate Wollak (Divine Child High School Class of 1998), Jon Wollak (Divine Child High School class of 2002), and Jeff Wollak (Divine Child High School class of 2006).   Frank is the youngest brother to his 3 sisters, Patricia Jewula, Felice Kowalewski and Marianne Southerland.

ALS, often refered to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a rare and progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.   As symptoms progress, it becomes difficult to walk, talk, eat and breathe.  Due to his current condition, Frank was unexpectedly forced into an early retirement from Steel Industries in Redford, Michigan after a lifelong career in the field.

Frank was recently accepted into a clinical trial for a new drug called Radicava, which his doctors have indicated will work to slow the progression of his ALS symptoms.   Frank's first treatment is set to begin on Wednesday March 21st.   The plan is for Frank to take this drug for 6 months. This intravenous infusion drug is very expensive.   Frank has many other medical expenses such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.

Frank is a huge inspiration to his children, family, and all those who he encounters daily. He lives by a philosophy of hard work and determination to persevere through life’s challenges. There are truly so many positive things to say about him, but the one thing that stands out the most is his dedication to being a man of integrity; he always does what is right by his neighbor and has paved the way for his children to do the same in their own lives. He is a role model of the highest esteem, and the lessons he teaches us are immeasurable—his children truly couldn’t ask for a better father, and his neighbors couldn’t ask for a better friend. He is deserving of all the blessings God continues to send him. We thank you in advance for your support.
