"Frankie's Walls" Film Project

Peace Walls were first built by the British Army between Catholic and Protestant working-class communities across Belfast in 1969 to contain sectarian violence. 50 years after the first wall was built and the ‘Troubles’ conflict began, the walls remain as seemingly permanent scars on the city and its people. Today, as a looming Brexit withdrawal from the EU is threatening to build a hard border between the North and South of Ireland, FRANKIE’S WALLS follows renowned photographer Frankie Quinn as he uses his camera to engage his neighbors on both sides of the walls around the forces that continue to divide their city.

Dear supporters,

We believe highlighting and preserving Frankie Quinn's and Belfast communities' vital work for peace is timely and necessary in these times. We are currently halfway through primary filming and are raising money to send director and cinematographer Tom Callahan to Belfast for three weeks of filming (as public health guidelines permit). Up until now, Tom has worked as a one-man-band (filming, recording sound and directing). For the first time, Tom will work with a professional Belfast documentary film crew, so he can focus on directing and how to best capture the final scenes and interviews.

We estimate the cost of travel and hiring the crew to be $25,000:

Flight R/T Chicago/Belfast $850
Accommodations and ground transportation $1500
Cinematographer $12k
Sound Recordist $9k

Please pitch in what you can and be a part of this journey with us.

We are offering some special rewards for a limited time until October 18th for your generous contributions.  Email your donation contribution to [email redacted] to claim your reward.
