Frankie Hickman, long-time Houston Grand Opera Chorister, was recently diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer. The paragraphs below explain Frankie’s diagnosis and were copied from her husband, Jay’s, Facebook post. Any and all donations will be made immediately available to Frankie and her family to help as she courageously battles cancer.

In August, Frankie was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer and was prescribed a course of treatment that would include four months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery (likely in March) and then radiation therapy, all at Memorial Hermann here in Houston (Memorial City location, for those familiar).

And we want to be clear at the outset: we are facing her prognosis with all positivity. We recognize that this is a major hurdle, and we plan to take it seriously and overcome it with the help of her treatment team.

She started her chemo a few weeks ago, and anticipating hair loss from the treatment, Frankie decided to preemptively shave her head. And I decided to join her. We did our joint head-shaving this past weekend, and we’re thrilled to share a photo of our results!

We will absolutely keep you posted as the journey progresses, and if anyone has any questions or advice, we certainly welcome it. In any case, we’ll look forward to making our “cancer free” announcement sometime next year!
