Rebuild Frank's Shed

Donation protected
Those of you who know my dad, know he's a giving kind of guy.

He gives his time, his stories, and he'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

My dad has done a lot on his own. He escaped communist Czechoslovakia on his own and sought asylum in Italy. Living off scraps left on cafe tables in the piazza he was often thought to have tuberculosis, that's how skinny he got living on the streets.

He eventually made it all the way to Australia where he started his new life as a refugee in what he describes as "the best country in the world"

He started a family and worked like an animal to support them, working three jobs at one time.

He worked and saved his whole life whilst being unable to read or write English.

My dad has overcome a great deal to get to where he is now. He's on a disability support pension - his body is not what it once was.

Those of you that know good old Franky, know each week he does his rounds handing out free fruit and veg, sausages and eggs, bread and dog food - for anyone that needs it. He's a generous bloke. He spends two nights a week driving all over Melbourne securing these donations. Anything that's left over he takes back to his farm and disperses among his beloved animals. He's a man that believes that "one hand washes the other" - which is what bring us to this point.

Today my dad suffered an enormous blow - fire tore through his shed and destroyed everything.

This isn't any old shed - this is a proper shed he used as a base for his big-hearted endeavours. It was like Noah's ark in there. I remember going in there once and seeing stray cats hunting mice in return for a warm place to sleep. Cows were nibbling on bread loaves whilst sheltering from the rain and his beloved dogs were cruising in between it all looking for scraps - which were plentiful.

My dad's an animal lover - and it doesn't matter which walk of life you were. You had a home there if you needed it. But that home was destroyed today, fire burned with such ferocity in that shed that it melted the walls. Now it's all gone. His base for giving back is no more.

This is where we need your help. That shed was built for $50,000 ten years ago and we are looking to rebuild it and re stock it with the fridges and freezers he needs to be able to continue to do what he does best - and that's help his community and his friends.

The shed had no insurance unfortunately - premiums were just too high and he could only afford to insure the family home, not the shed as well. This is why we are turning to the Go Fund Me community for help.

My dad loves this country and the people who gave him a place to live and call his home. You have all given him so much - but he needs your help one more time.

Your generosity will be life changing for my Dad.
