Frank Reid's burial expenses

Frank John Reid slipped away from us during surgery I had authorized for him on February 6, 2018. He was 77. A trustworthy friend and affectionate companion, he'd been a part of our family life for more than fifty years. Frank and my husband Bill met in college. During graduate school at University of Chicago Frank (like so many young men and women) fell prey to significant mental illness. He had better and worse days, months and years. But he never was able to support himself. His suffering was terrible. Yet he maintained our friendship all these years.

Frank loved Japanese film, lively discussion, in-depth research work, and being part of a group of friends. He was for years the historian and researcher at the Center for UFO studies. He had a passionate interest in one UFO mystery and shortly before his death had picked out an author he thought could use his research to write the book he wasn't able to. (The author doesn't know it!) Frank fit right in at holiday parties of his friends' families. He was so much a part of our lives, for so long, I cannot imagine life without him.

Frank has no family to arrange and pay for his funeral and burial. Shortly before his death he told me, "My whole family is buried at St. Boniface." I asked him why he was reminding me, since I already knew. I could not imagine that Frank was ready to die.

I have arranged his cremation and the interment of his ashes in the family plot with his mother, grandmother, and other loved ones. I have done my best to keep costs low -- I tried to make the arrangements without an undertaker, but that's not the world we live in.
