Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Peace of Jesus in your heart and on your lips!

At a Call to Holiness event this past year, I was so touched by all the love, prayers, and support I received from God’s holy people. A young mom came up to me to assure me that she and her family prayed for me every day. My heart was deeply moved as the Lord gave me a glimpse of how His Grace has moved and worked through my priesthood for the building up of His people.

Another great grace I received this past year came when our Lord reminded me of something that took place during Holy Mass as I was moving from pro-life missionary work to the seminary over twenty years ago. My spiritual father wanted me to first go to a catholic college to learn philosophy and then after my college was finished, he would help me discern a Diocese or religious order. During a Holy Mass at the Madonna College Chapel in 1994, I was very anxious and worried about how I was going to pay for four years of college tuition and room and board. As I wrestled with worry, I heard our Blessed Mother’s voice for the first time. She said to me: “Michael, if you can’t trust me in little things, when will you ever learn to trust me in big things?” I responded: “I don’t know what this trust is, but I will trust you.” Right after Holy Mass, the priest who had offered it wanted to speak to me. He had heard that I was on the way to seminary. Not even five minutes into the conversation, he pledged to pay for my four years of college.

Our Lord reminded me of this great grace because this new season in my priesthood is one of those big things Mother Mary spoke of. Our Lord helped me to understand that if I don’t trust Him and His Holy Mother, I will not make it through this. Learning to trust and renew my trust in the Lord has brought me to a place of awe and wonder that the Lord has allowed me to go through such a trial! I’m learning to become grateful for the trials of life and to remain hungry to see the good the Lord will bring from all of this. For the first time in my life, my heart doesn’t shake with fear before the crosses that are a part of every human life.

I’ve been so blessed by my spiritual father. I proposed a rhythm of life to him so that I might receive his blessing. My spiritual father wants me to seize this opportunity to grow more deeply in my priesthood that I might become better equipped to serve God’s holy people. My days are filled with prayer, work, and study. Every time I have the opportunity to offer Holy Mass in a Church or to sit in a confessional, the Holy Spirit confirms His calling on my life. I love being a priest of Jesus Christ!

Because of your prayers and support, my recourse to the Vaticanis moving forward. I am so grateful to Mother Church that there is a way for me to respectfully ask Mother Church to examine the details of my removal as pastor. There is no strict timeline to how long the recourse will take: it may be for another year or two.

I am so grateful for all the love, prayers, and support I’ve received from you over this past year. I encourage you during this holy season of Advent to place your trust daily in the Lord and His Holy Mother. Start with the little things of life: place them in our Lord’s hands, ask His Mother’s intercession, and allow heaven to move mightily on your behalf.

Mother Mary transformed the grotto of Bethlehem into a royal palace that overflowed with glory, light, warmth, and love! Imagine what she will do if you entrust your heart to her!

May our sweet Savior be welcomed into warm, loving, and pure hearts on Christmas Day as we praise and thank our Father for the gift of His Son, our Savior!

Be assured of my prayers for you and your family!

In Jesus and Mary,
