Baby Harper's Medical Fund

Baby Harper was due July 21st 2017. She was an acrobat in utero and my sister, Tina Hamblin was induced on July 19th. After a 7 1/2 hour labor my sister delivered Harper successfully!

Harper snuggled with her momma for over an hour before routine baby checks began. During her exam it was discovered she had Imperforate Anus, simply put Baby Harper was born without an anus; Cue a controlled frenzy of nurses, doctors and staff helping to find the best immediate solution.  While the Rice Lake hospital has a fantastic staff, the hospital wasn’t equipped to handle an issue of this size. Baby Harper needed to be transferred to the nearest Children's Hospital 2 1/2 hours away. She was going to be airlifted but, an impending storm made that an unsafe option. Instead a transport vehicle was dispatched from Marshfield WI to whisk Harper to the NICU. They secured Harper for transport and we all made our way to Saint Joseph's Children's Hospital in Marshfield WI.

Once Harper was settled one of the NICU staff members, Wanda, walked us through a few different requirements for us to safely visit Harper. Mom and Dad were able to visit with baby for a bit before they rested themselves.  A few short hours later we met with a different doctors and learned more about Harper and her issue.

Now where do we go from here?

-Harper has Anorectal Malformation.

-Harper will undergo a series of test to determine if any other systems have been affected.

-Harper will have an cardiac echocardiogram to rule out heart anomalies.

-Harper will have a renal ultrasound to identify urinary anomalies.

-Harper will also have a spine MRI to rule out a tethered cord or abnormal attachment of the spinal cord to the vertebrae.

As of right now baby Harper is looking at a minimum of 2 surgeries. Her first will be at about 2 month old, when she has reached 10lbs. This surgery will be to place an opening to complete her digestive tract and place a colostomy till her 2nd surgery.  Harper's 2nd surgery will be 2-3 months after that. The 2nd surgery will connect everything as it should be.  It's possible that these 2 surgeries will completely fix the issue!!  While these surgeries will make it possible for her to have a "normal" bowel movement, this will be a life long issue Harper will have to deal with.

As I write this, my sister Tina and brother-in-law Jeff are visiting baby Harper. They were able to secure housing at the local Ronald McDonald House. This is where they will stay for the next 5-7 days while we get Harper ready to come home and grow big and strong for her first surgery.  My sister live 3 hours away from the Children's Hospital and has 3 daughters at home eagerly waiting for mom, dad and baby sister to come home!!

I started this gofundme to help them with all the expenses this will incur as well as the day to day necessities a family has.  In times like this, money is the last thing one thinks about but, it's a reality. So I'm here to help as much as I can  for the next 3 weeks. Between this gofundme and what I plan to do with LuLaRoe, I think we will be able to help the Hamblin family and lift them up with all our LOVE!

At the end of the day, a pregnant woman wants nothing more than to have a healthy baby. It hasn't even been 24 hours since baby Harper was born and I've watched my sister go through things no new mom should have to endure! I can tell you one thing though, Tina is FIERCE!! She loves her girls more than her next breath of air. She has a heart that is often larger than her body can hold!! If you ask her for something she is there for you in a heartbeat. She is gracious, humble, genuine and above all else she is my SISTER BLISTER and I would do ANYTHING to take her pain away as would the countless women who make up her tribe but, this pain will make her even stronger.

Please share baby Harper's story.

Thank you all so much and stay tuned for updates.
