Hi were Jess and Jord, Fox's mummy and daddy. Thank you for stopping by and please read on to find out about why we are fundraising for our Son, Fox.

Fox was 2 and a half years old when he suffered his acquired brain injury due to being infected by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis causing Pulmonary Tuberculosis which had spread to his brain causing meningitis or TBM. TBM is extremely rare for children in the UK.

This resulted in him having a slow progressing stroke causing him to loose his left side and have seizures. The infection had blocked pathways to his brain that control mobility, vision, cognitive processing and also put intense pressure on the brains ventricles. This caused them to swell creating a life long condition called Hydrocephalus. Fox needed brain surgery to install a special tap in the form of a VP Shunt to help drain excess Cerebal Spinal Fluid safely into his stomach.

We very nearly lost Fox, as he spent 5 or so weeks in Peadiatric intensive care at Southampton General Hospital. The team there against all odds managed to diagnose him in just 7 days which is an incredible clinical achievement. We put our utmost trust in Fox's lead consultant and the team in PICU. They stayed up late referring to old text books becuase nobody could figure out what was going on with him, but they put the pieces of the puzzle together and saved him.

Fox is now on an intensive rehabilitation programme which consists of Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

To support him further we are fundraising to supply him with 3 pieces of equipment that will not only support him in his recovery but also bring so much joy and enrichment to his life, so he can continue to play a close part of our busy family and spend time with his siblings in an accessible, fun and nurturing way.

These products all come from the parent led cic called FireFly. They are the;

GoTo Seat, a lightweight portable seat that inserts into swings, supermarket trolleys, restaurant chairs and on its own as a stand alone fully supported seat. This costs £435.

Splashy - very similar to the GoTo Seat but specifically designed for water. So it helps us bathe him safely and enjoy swimming pools, water play, family beach days. The straps and seat are all salt water resistant. This costs £425.

And lastly the Scooot. This is a 4 in 1 aid which allows him to independently move around by using the crawl, ride, scooot or pooosh mode. This will be really helpful in getting Fox to move independently and encourage his brain to make new pathways embedding new ways of doing things. This costs £525.

We wish to buy new, and to purchase directly from the family who make these products to ensure the profits generated from our purchase supports families with disabled children.

Since Fox's diagnosis he has undergone a plethora of tests, MRI's, CT's, Xray's, medicines, 2 brain surgeries. He is making remarkable progress in his recovery and we want to continue to give him the best chance of leading an independent and fulfilling experience of life.

This is just the beginning of the fundraising we want to do for Fox and for the teams and charities who saved his life. Later next year we will be hosting a family fun day in the name of all the charities that have supported us so far. For example the ambulance alone which was used to retrieve Fox from QA in Portsmouth and took him to PICU at Southampton General Hospital was purely funded via the Friends of PICU charity, and without that specialised ambulance and the kit inside it we wouldn't have had the means of getting to PICU so efficiently.

We have been in hospital since the middle of May and since then Friends of PICU, Sophies Legacy, Ronald McDonald House Charity, Southampton Children's Hospital and Children's Brain Injury Trust have all stood firmly next to us every step of the way, and we want to give back as regularly and as much as we can.
