Houston's Fourth Ward Toy Drive

For the past several years, I’ve been involved in a grass roots Christmas toy drive in Houston’s Fourth Ward at the Rose of Sharon church where we hand out gifts to the neighborhood kids. It’s a wonderful event, and sometimes I think the parents are more touched than the kids. I have the honor of organizing this year’s toy drive, which will take place next week on Thursday, December 20th at 3:00 PM at the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church (1106 Valentine).
Since these gifts may be one of the only gifts these kids receive for Christmas, I would love to “go big” with donating the most coveted toys such as bikes. We’ve been able to donate a handful of bikes in the past, but how great would it be to fill that church with a bike for every kid! I know we all have our favorite charitable organizations, but please consider making a donation, either through the GoFundMe link below, check or cash. Alternatively, if you would like to donate a gift, that would be just as wonderful.
I have been blessed to know so many generous people and know that we all support various causes, yet have limited resources. If you are unable to contribute, please know your prayers for our endeavors are just as important and I hope that you will consider helping simply by spreading the word and asking your own network to consider supporting us. It may seem a small thing to do so, but we have seen God work in “random connections” and small gestures of simply forwarding emails such as this.
If you wish to donate, the deadline for collections are outlined below:
Monetary Donations – This Friday, December 14th
Unwrapped Gift – Next Monday, December 17th. Please note the age range and gender on the gift.
Wrapped Gift – Next Wednesday, December 19th. Please note the age range and gender on the gift.
Toy donations may be delivered to my office at 1300 Post Oak Blvd, STE 1650, or (if wrapped) may be taken directly to the church on Thursday morning. For those of you that would like to deliver directly to the church or help with the distribution or gift wrapping, please let me know.
