Four Seasons Hurricane Irma Relief

Donation protected

As you know several of our properties have recently been in the path of devastating hurricanes and we've all been anxiously awaiting updates from our colleagues. At this time, while we are relieved to report that there has been minimal effect from Hurricane Irma on our properties in Nevis and Florida, unfortunately our resort in Anguilla is now facing a very difficult path to recovery.

The good news is that our employees are safe and accounted for. When Hurricane Irma, followed by Hurricane Jose, passed through, the Resort was on annual closure so there were no guests at the resort. The reopening date is yet to be determined, as we are still assessing the extent of the damage.

Most major resorts on the island are in a similar situation. Restoration of services including power, safe water supply, sewage treatment and clearing of extensive debris around the island remains the priority but there is not a clear time table for when these things will be completed. Thank you to Ilse Harley and her team who prepared for the storm’s arrival in accordance with our response plans and who, along with a number of managers, remained on site during the storm. Our thoughts are with them all during this extremely difficult time.

In times like this we are reminded that our Four Seasons family extends beyond those who come to work each day. Many of our employees on Anguilla are now facing personal challenges with loss or damage to their homes, dwindling supplies, and the need to help their neighbours. On the nearby island of Nevis, which was thankfully spared the worst and where our resort has now reopened, our Four Seasons colleagues are lending their support to Anguilla with a large container shipment of food, clothing and emergency relief supplies on the way.

You can help too. This account has been set up to collect donations, with all funds being directed to the Anguillan Red Cross. We invite you to contribute personally, get together with your colleagues to raise funds, or work with your Director of HR on other ways to help.

It was only a couple of short weeks ago that we learned of the devastation in Houston due to Hurricane Harvey. As I said at that time, Mother Nature has a capacity to remind us of our powerlessness. In the aftermath, it also has the capacity to reveal the resilience of the human spirit to rebuild that which has been lost. Please continue to keep Anguilla in your thoughts and prayers as our colleagues begin the arduous and emotional process of recovery. Thank you again for all that you do.

Sincerely,
