In May of 2017, my mom was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Sydrome. She began rounds of chemotherapy in May and was soon diagnosed with Acute Luekemia. My mom needed immediate hospitalization for 40 days following her diagnosis and bravely battled 13 strains of pneumonia that almost took her life. This has been a trying time in our family's life.
My mom is a wonderful person and has been charitable to those in need for as long as I can remember. She currently serves as Director of the Moose Lake Historical Society and sings in the Autumn Voices choir. She strives every day to make people feel happy and warm. My mom has an unforgettable personality full of energy, humor, and spirit.
My mom is in remission as of October 1st and continues to be treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. A stem cell transplant is the only chance for survival and my uncle, her brother Marc, is a perfect match. She will need to reside in Rochester for a minimum of 100 days following this procedure and then travel almost 400 miles round trip from her home in Moose Lake to Rochester for biweekly monitoring of the transplant. It is unknown how long these appointments will be required.
The cost of this treatment is extensive and my family is requesting support for the following:
* Transportation from California to Minnesota for Kris' brother Marc who needs to take 2 weeks off of work for this procedure. Marc's employment does not offer compensation for his time away
* Relocation for Kris from Moose Lake, MN to Rochester, MN for the first 100 days following the transplant (this includes renting a home in the area)
* Caretaking expenses for Kris as she will require someone to be with her for 24 hours a day for the first 100 days following the transplant - this is requiring family members to take time away from their work and immediate family
* All other unexpected medical expenses
My mom will begin this treatment on February 1st, 2018. Please consider donating before this time and thank you in advance for your support, time, and donations. I want to thank all the neighbors and friends in Sturgeon Lake and all other family members and friends who have spent their time and energy in supporting us through this difficult time. I especially want to thank my uncle Marc for his compassion and selflessness for the eight weeks already spent in Minnesota, we could not have gotten through that time period without you.
