Foundation fix

Our current reality. On August 13, crews break ground on significant foundation repairs to our house. Significant actually seems like an understatement when the project will cost $60,000. A few months after moving into our house we noticed some cracks along different parts of our ceiling. I, of course, freaked out and contacted a foundation company immediately. When they arrived, the first thing the guy said was "we've been here before." Our hearts, and stomachs, sank. Apparently our sellers didn't disclose what we believe they had knowledge of, and our home inspector dropped the ball in a major way. It was a very unfortunate series of events. We started to explore different options: our homeowners insurance, legal action, different avenues for repair, selling the house, etc.. We found that there seems to be only one real fix to the problem (which fortunately will have a lifetime, transferable warranty), insurance covers NOTHING related to ground settling (even earthquake related), and legal action in NY is too expensive and risky for a case like ours. We love our house and neighborhood and we hope to raise our kids here.

So, after months of consideration, we have decided to do what we think is the right thing, and fix the house.

At this point, we are sharing our story for a couple reasons. One, we are asking for prayer. We pray that God will provide and that the project will go smoothly and not incur additional costs. We think we will feel much more at peace in our house once it has a firm foundation Two, we are reminding people that lying always comes at someone else's expense. It is something we will teach our children, and I hope you teach yours. This reality is costing us all that we have and more.
