Foster Kids Christmas

About the Foster Kids:

Holidays are the best time to gather together, practice our traditions, give gifts to our loved ones, and then complain about how we ate too much food.

Our Foster Children do not know what any of that means; to have a strong family with rich tradition and family heritage. I am sad to say that in DeKalb County, our Foster Children and Foster Parents have not had a Holiday Party in three years.

This is the opposite of what these children need, especially during the holidays. Children and youth in foster care need extra love and support. Because they experience loss of their family, the holidays are a painful time.

Even after the school holiday break is over, our Foster Children feel isolated and forgotten as their friends return from winter break with stories of vacations, new gifts and family celebrations.

This is why the Foster Parents are working hard to make sure our kids aren’t left out. They deserve to have happy holiday stories to share.

We want this year to be special, creating new traditions in DeKalb County for future years to come. This is the year to begin imparting a new understanding of what Christmas should be for every child.

We are creating a Festival of Trees Event with crafts, activities, food, gifts, and anything else we can do to create a forever memory for these kids to share with their children one day.

There are approximately 850 - 950 children in care in DeKalb County. Our Foster Parents work hard all year, and we want to reward them, too.

All funds raised will be administered by DeKalb FLAG aka DeKalb Fostering Love and Grace, Inc. If we exceed our financial goal, extra funds will go to help provide Christmas presents for last minute kids entering the system. Furthermore, we will wisely spend it on future events for the kids and Foster Parent training classes.

About Us:

DeKalb FLAG aka DeKalb Fostering Love and Grace, Inc. is the DeKalb County Foster Parent Association in DeKalb County Georgia. We have been working as group since April 2017 and are submitting our 501C3 non-profit status application to formalize our work and help us with fund raising. In the interim, we want a solid foundation for the organization with a strategic plan and therefore we need your support during this transition.

We call ourselves the FLAG Bearers, because every day we carry the FLAG for these children, doing all that we can to help them heal and become healthier and stronger children believing they can move through this crisis into a future filled with hope and purpose.  “DeKalb” is the name of the the county in which we operate. One of the most populated counties in the Metro-Atlanta area
