Bring Baby Delilah Home to Shellie Nichol Chandar

Delilah has dwarfism (hypochondroplasia) due to be born this August. Ultrasounds show that she has significantly small legs and arms (in the less than one percentile). But that is not the only challenge this precious baby girl is facing.

UPDATE: Delilah was born 8/8/17 weighing in at 6lbs 7oz and 16 inches long.   Although she is perfect in every way   Delilah does have some medical issues due to her Dwarfism.  We continue to ask for support to not only cover the remainder of her adoption but to help cover her extensive medical care.

A rough start

Delilah's expectant mom Ashley is also a dwarf. But the challenges she faced had nothing to do with her size. At the tender age of 19, Ashley had already been in 20 foster families and 8 group homes where she was mostly abused or neglected. She aged out of the system -- homeless, scared, and expecting her own child. She had no family. No one to care for her or the baby she knew she could not raise.

Then came a foster care warrior

Shellie Nichol and her husband Sundeep have 6 children of their own and have fostered almost 60 more children, most of who were medically-fragile or delayed.

After a traumatic loss, Shellie turned her attention toward creating a platform to bring healing and restoration to thousands of foster children and their caretakers through her non-profit "Project Foster Care" And that's exactly how Ashley found a reason to hope again.

Life forever changed in the instant Shellie logged into Facebook one evening.

It was uncanny. It was ordained.

Shellie never logs into Facebook at that time of night... and this time, she did. A heartrending and desperate message from a fellow foster care warrior was waiting for her. Homeless, aged out foster child, with dwarfism, medical conditions, dwarfism and pregnant, desperately needing help.

Shellie responded immediately, and a strong bond formed between the two almost instantly.

After getting to know the Chandars, Ashley was confident it was time to ask ... "Would you adopt my baby girl?"

God had already prepared the Chandars for this very moment, as they registered years ago to adopt a baby with dwarfism but there was a 10yr waiting list. So, of course, they said "yes."

The moment everything changed

Shellie's previous foster agency told them they would handle the adoption, which would mean all fees would be covered. The Chandars turned their attention to helping take care of Ashley and attending all the doctor's appointments and ultrasounds, where doctors expressed concern with the baby's condition.

But they never could have prepared for what happened this week.

The foster agency suddenly pulled out of the adoption, stating they were not yet prepared for this adoption yet. Placing the burden of all the costs associated with the adoption square on the Chandars and with just weeks before baby Delilah will be here.

But sweet baby Delilah doesn't know that the Chandars need time to raise funds for the adoption, and she is due to be delivered in August.

This is why we need your help!

Shellie needs to raise $10,000 in the next few weeks to pay the associated costs with adoption. This includes:

$5,500 for state home study
$2,000 (minimum) for lawyer fees
$2,500 for medical costs

Will you help bring Delilah home?

We know you can't meet this need all alone, but there is something you can still do to help. We all have some $5 habit we could kick for one day:

-a $5 Frappe

-a $5 wine off a local happy hour menu

-a $5 e-book

-a $5 app purchase

-a $5 meal from the drive-thru

Would you be willing to stop give up your $5 habit, just for the day, and donate to give Delilah a safe, loving home that her expecting mom has chosen for her?

Ashley never knew what it was like to be safe and loved growing up. She only wishes her daughter could have the childhood she never did.

Please donate $5 (or more if you want), and click the share now button. There is no time to spare if this does not happen the baby is at risk of entering the foster care system, a fate that terrifies the Chandars and birth mama both.

It's 5 minutes and 5 dollars for you -- it's a lifetime of love and security for little baby Delilah.

Thank you for standing with us.
