Every mothers worst nightmare is the unthinkable accident that could happen to your child.
Micah was a healthy, normal, and active 13-month old. One day, in a split instant, Micah fell two-stories from a window hitting his head on a wooden deck. When the paramedics arrived Micah was without a heartbeat. Countless nurses and doctors frantically worked on Micah for 25 minutes before his heart began to beat. Initially Micah was placed in an intensive care unit (ICU) in a comatose state on a breathing machine to keep him alive. Micah struggled for days on the brink of death. After fighting to survive for a month in the ICU, Micah was discharged to a rehab facility in a vegetative state. Micah spent another month in rehab before returning home.
Micah's life will never be the same.
Today, Micah is six years old living at home with his single mother, Kristen and sister, Madison. Due to his traumatic brain injury, his daily routine and needs are extensive. He is as dependent as a newborn, but fifty pounds in weight. He is fed through a feeding tube in his stomach and needs to be turned every two hours by his mother to prevent skin breakdown, even throughout the night. His medication list is endless.
Kristen is the sole caregiver for Micah and Madison while maintaining a full time job as a nurse. Previously in the past Kristen has had nursing care for Micah but has been stripped of this necessity.
As Micah grows so do his needs and new health issues arise daily.
