Fort Restoration Project

Tax deductible
Fort la Reine was built in 1738 by renowned explorer and fur trader, Pierre la Verendrye in the heart of the Canadian Prairies as an anchored site for trade. A team of valiant volunteers and community members built a replica of the Fort and built the Fort la Reine Museum on the outskirts of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1967. Since its original construction, the Fort has been loved by all in our region and has been used to educate visitors about the history of prairie settlement, and Indigenous histories. The Fort is now in dire need of restoration in order for it's continued use.

The Fort Restoration Project was officially relaunched in the Fall of 2020, with a goal of rebuilding the bastion towers and refurbishing the exhibits housed in each.  We hope that we may raise the funds to  begin the restoration process by the Spring of 2021.
