Stacey is my 38yr old wife, friend and mother of four and has been diagnosed with a Cerebral-aneurysms-and-subarachnoid-haemorrhage (bleed on the brain) which has weakened her left side and we have been told is going to eventually leave her paralysed for the rest of her life. This is the second time this has happened to Stacey but this time things will be differant and muchworse.
I have set up this page to help to raise as many funds as I can to help purchase the equipment, adaptations to the home and treatment that my wife will need to live the rest of her life as independently as possible. She will have to give up her buisiness, her passion and will need homecare and help which will be extremely hard for her, especially regards her being able to care for our two younger children aged 2 and 4yrs.
Stacey is a very independent person and has always had the strength of will and mind to over come whatever her health and life has thrown her way but this time I and many others are stepping in to help her through this.
A few of us, including her elder sons Callum who is 18yr old and Kai who is 14yr old, have all pleadged to do as many fundrasing activities as possible over the next year in order to raise the funds needed to get this equipment and treatment in place.
Here is her story.
In 2000 Stacey started to experience change in her strength and mobility but after only recently giving birth to her son Kai, thought nothing of it putting it down to over exertion and tiredness. However by March 2001 Stacey had become completly paralysed down her left side and was in hospital, the doctors did a brain scan which showed a large bleed in the centre of her brain, After many months in hospital, major brain surgery to remove the damaged area and time spent in rehabilitation Stacey was allowed home with the understanding futher treatment by way of Radiosurgery was to happen later that year, this was intended to cortorise the area and prevent further damage or bleeding.
Now the pressure in her brain had been removed she started to recover her movement and mobility, over the next year Stacey had the Radiosurgery and got on with her recovery. A while later however Stacey began to experience pain in her hip when walking and sitting and after further investigation was diagnosed with Avascular Nacrosis, a bone disease which effects joints, cutting off the blood supply to the area leaving the bone to die and crumble away, this was found in both hips and left ankle and is apparently a 'rare' side effect of the steroids given to her to reduce the swelling in her brain at the time of her brain hemorrage.
This second blow put Stacey back into a wheelchair for around a year and in line for yet futher operations, the next one being a total hip replacement and as her ankle had crumbled away to next to nothing, an ankle fusion was the only option left.
Whilst all this was going on Stacey felt she wanted to return to work as she hated being what she felt was 'usless' and found employment in a call centre as she was not able to return to her previous occupations as a Nursery Nurse and care worker due to still having many mobility issuses.
Over the time Stacey turned to Complementary Therapies such as healing and massage to aid her long term recovery and loved the effects and benefits so much that she re trained as a therapist and in 2007 set up her own business helping others and has been doing so ever since.
Whilst living in Burnley in October 2013 Stacey started experiencing weakness again and went to her GP, nothing was done and she carried on as normal, the weakness got less as time passed but then in March 2014 she developed the weakness again and this time went straight to A&E, a scan revealved futher bleeding in the same area as it had 14yrs previously. Obviously this was a shock to us all as we thought this was something that had been dealt with years ago.
In July 2014 Stacey had another course of Radio surgery, this again was to try to cortorise the area and stop the bleed, to date it hasnt worked the area has bled again.
Stacey has now been told by her Neurosurgeon that unfortunatly she will continue to get weaker and become paralysed with the chance of recovery being slim to none, they are planning another brain operation in the next few months but due to the previous surgery scarring and the danger of operating in the brain again this could bring on her paralasis quicker and possibly make things worse.
At the moment Stacey is still working, running her business in Burnley with the support of her staff and friends but is slowly being less able to help the clients she has been helping for years.
We are now working with family support at the younger two childrens nursery and the areas Occupational therapy team to do what we can but Stacey will be needing to get a special standing wheelchair plus many adaptations to the house so she can remain living there and retaining her independance.
As a strong advercate for Complemtary Therapies we would also be looking for her to continue treatments such as Osteopathy, Massage to keep her muscles as strong as possible and the Physio needed for joint manipulation. There are also vast hospital trips ahead for rehabilitation, scans and such.
Our Plan
Myself and the two older boys are aiming to do as many fundraising activities as we can in the year ahead including the Toughmudder Challenge and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.
We aim to keep everyone who is supporting both Stacey and the family updated both here and via the social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
