Forrest Trask needs a few things!!

Hiya! This is Forrest Trask. He is a character. He is a survivor. In his life he has been through a lot. He was born with spina bifida (myelomeningocele) and massive progressive hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, legally blind, serious seizure disorder – having seizures over 7 hours - profoundly physically disabled and has had many bouts of sickness – but he’s come out shinier and brighter each time!!! All that being said, his life is a happy and rich one.
I debated long and hard over deciding to do this but there is just no other way. He wants/needs a few things. First is a Daessy mounting arm system for his wheelchair that will hold his eye gaze system in place so it doesn’t bounce around. The quote for this, plus shipping, is $2266.50. another band I had purchased did not work at all. He desperately needs this to communicate. It works with his looking at pictures with his eyes and the Tobii Dynavox Mini Eye gaze system says the word in the block he is looking at. At 22 years old, I head “I love you mom” for the first time in actual language. I cried a bit….he needs this arm to really learn to use the system properly. The other arm has fallen a few times and if this breaks, then it’s another $5000.00 for that machine. So I have to protect it until he gets this arm to hold it for him. VERY important so he doesn’t lose the skills he’s gained.
The other item is this wonderful item called a Hippocampe – see picture below. This beauty will open up avenues for him that are currently impossible. He could go to the beach! On trails! Over rocks! And even ski!! If you’ve ever had anyone in a wheelchair with even a flake of snow on the ground you know how complicated it gets to get out of the house or get around. This item is $12,000 tp $13.000 total with the attachments and adjustments for him – he has a severe 125 degree scoliosis in his thoracic spine and kyphosis in his lower spine, so seating has to be done very carefully. I’m hoping upon hope that you’ll see fit to contribute to this item to make his life fuller and more inclusive.
This is a Hippocampe all terrain wheelchair. This will cost about $13,000 as it has to be customized for Forrest. The Hippocampe makes it possible for the physically disabled to get to a beach, it even floats! It is designed to go over rough terrain, rocks, beach, and with the attachments, snow!!! Blows my mind!!! He will be 24 soon and I really don’t want to see another day go by without him having the benefit of something this great.
Many people don’t realize how expensive it is to truly help a disabled person live a full, meaningful, happy life. Day to day expenses are bad enough but when something like this comes along, it is totally out of range for the average family.
