It’s never easy asking for help, however when the people you love are in need of your support - you’d do anything to help.

For our mate Dayne

On the Friday 9th February, a fun weekend away at the Southern 80 in Echuca turned life changing.

Dayne severely broke his heel after falling off a rope swing and was taken by Ambulance to Echuca hospital, was going to be airlifted to Melbourne but ended up being transferred to Bendigo Hospital the same night.

Daynes heel bone shattered on impact into several pieces and pierced the skin in 3 places - one of these quite severe.

The day after the accident, Dayne had an operation to try and put all the pieces back together.

They inserted wires to hold the heel bone to a plate on the outside of his foot, tried to wash the Murray water out and closed the biggest wound.

5 days later he was transferred to Maroondah Hospital to be closer to home, where they opened the bandages to see where the healing process was at, and were unfortunately horrified with what they found - a very infected wound, burst stitches and a foot that had not been washed out sufficiently. He was rushed in for emergency surgery the next day where they also discovered Dayne had severed a nerve and an artery. Unfortunately the nerve is damaged beyond repair, and is the nerve which gives feeling the entire sole of your foot, and a few of your toes. Not only does it give feeling, but as it is now severed it is giving his foot a burning sensation as if his foot is on fire which they are not sure that they can fix. He has had another 2 operations since.

Dayne was faced with the ultimatum;

To have a below knee amputation (recommended option by surgeons) OR try to salvage the leg despite the insensate sole, large skin graft and extensive bone repair required, for no guaranteed outcome. A very hard decision for an active person whose favorite things are snowboarding, wake boarding and doing anything outdoors.

Dayne has courageously chosen to salvage his leg which doctors say will take 12-18 months to get back to work and more operations required over the next 3-6 months. The recovery to walk normally would be a miracle, however we have faith... and we believe in miracles and Daynes determination.

As I’m sure we can all agree, I personally could not imagine being handed that decision at the young age of 26...(let alone any age)!

As of today, Dayne has already been in hospital for over 3 weeks and is about to go in for his 5th surgery.

Dayne started his own electrical business in February last year. His hard work and attention to detail meant he was quickly building a successful business. This unfortunately means he doesn’t have anything to fall back on to get him through the long recovery process.

Him and his girlfriend Rach purchased a block of land in July last year which is due to title in the next few weeks and the build to start soon there after.

Unfortunately we can’t plan for these things happening in life and no time is ever the right time, but we’re trying to raise as much money as possible to ease at least one of the stresses of what’s to come in their future and that’s the financial stress. They are not sure at this point what amendments will be required to his car or their home- it will all depend on his recovery.

If you can, please share the love and donate. $1, $5, $20 ...whatever you can WILL help!

As we can appreciate that some may want to donate but are not in a financial position to do so, would also appreciate well wishes and positive messages to encourage and help them get through this difficult time emotionally.

From the bottom of all of our hearts - we thank you for your generosity
