Forgotten Hero

Since 9/11, thousands of special trained advisors have been sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. Our mission was to partner with local forces, creating a path toward stability through strengthening relationships with the local people.

Over the course of nearly 15 years of sustained combat operations, a tightly knit community of warriors has emerged that transcends differences of nationality, race, and religion. Our bonds are based on the love shared between brothers, formed through blood, sweat, and tears on the battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of our Wartime Allies have chosen to flee their homes due to debilitating personal injury and/or imminent threat to self or family. We stand by their decision because given the conditions, we would do the same.

With a rapidly deteriorating security situation and an exodus of innocent people from war-torn regions, our friends are swept into the over-tasked and under-resourced international refugee system where they are marginalized, targeted, and even hunted for their work with American troops. They are a crucial part of our international warrior community, and it is imperative that we support them in their struggle to find home.

This GoFundMe fundraising campaign is specifically for a pioneer in the effort to recognize and address this crucial struggle. He is known as "The Captain" and his story articulates the broader issue beautifully. Watch the National Geographic documentary:

After three years of struggling against the system, holding conferences with many government agency officials, pleading with the DOD at the highest levels, and making as much noise in the public sector as possible, we are still without a solution and nearly out of steam. We built an organization around this effort, merged it with a like-minded veteran run non-profit, and along the way helped a lot of our former translators resettle here in the US. But The Captain and his family are  still stuck in hiding, with hope dwindling rapidly.

The Captain and his household of eight are totally dependant upon the small living stipend we’ve been able to supply since this all began. It costs $1400 per month to keep a roof over their heads, their bellies full, the lights on, and the medical bills paid. That’s the amount we’ve been giving, but we’re simply unable to continue, and this is the impetus of this fundraising campaign.

We need your help.  We simply want to give Anwar and his family some time to come up with another plan. Right now, it looks like the only option will be to move into a refugee camp, which absolutely breaks our hearts.

We are making this decision with a heavy heart and we believe the honorable thing to do is to give him some time to make his decision. We would like to support his family for at least 3 months so that they can get their affairs in order. We are asking for your help to raise these funds and to give Anwar and his family a fighting chance in whatever may come next.

Please give whatever you can. Please ask your family and friends too. We established a private GoFundMe specifically for this final gift to Anwar and his family, and we’re asking you to share it with your close friends and family only. No facebook, no other social media please. We want this to be a personal gift from us to him.
