On September 30, 2019 my family received devastating news that flipped our whole world upside down. My Dad, Steve Stephanides, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Over these past 15 months our family has been determined to hold strong for one another and more importantly, hold strong for my Dad. At this time, the disease continues to progress rapidly and he is now being cared for by the Care Dimensions Hospice team for end of life care.
It was late September when my Dad was complaining of an upset stomach and recent abdominal and back pain. One test led to another and we received a phone call that there were three masses found in his scan. He was quickly diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer that had already spread to other organs within his body. We were in complete shock as my Dad was a very healthy, active 61 year old. Our family rallied with my Dad and fought together. My Dad never once lost hope or faith. He was determined to fight this disease for as long as he possibly could.
My Dad has been working alongside his brothers at their local sub shop for the past 40+ years. He has been an active member of our Greek Orthodox church community, St. Vasilios Church, since they brought his family to this country. The Greek church community means the world to him. He is the true definition of caring, selfless and hardworking.
Since my Dad's diagnosis, my Mom put her life on pause to stay by his side every single day. My Dad has been unable to work since diagnosis as he decided to move forward with an aggressive chemotherapy regimen. Unfortunately, he was never deemed a candidate for radiation or surgery due to the advanced disease stage at the time of the diagnosis. With this has come extensive medical bills as well as a change in the family's ability to work in order to provide my Dad the care he needs during this ever so challenging time. Please consider helping my brother, Zack, and I raise money to support our family through such a difficult time. We appreciate everyone's support, kind words and encouragement throughout this journey.
