Scott Reese, Flight Paramedic for Mercy Flight Central in Canadaigua NY, passed away on August 28th leaving behind his wife Erin and 6 young children- RIP Scott

Scott's journey with cancer started back in October of 2014. Scott noticed a swollen lymph node in his neck, which turned out to be Stage 3 Melanoma. After surgery he completed a year of Interferon treatment and was found to have no active Melanoma in December 2015.

In March they noticed a nodule at the original surgical site. Unfortunately they  found out that the Melanoma had returned. PET scan showed 3 spots in his neck as well as a subcutaneous tumor in his abdomen. This distant tumor changed the game to Stage 4 Melanoma.

Scott chose to have surgery to remove those tumors in his neck and radiation on the abdominal one. They traveled to Sloan Kettering in May for a second opinion. After returning from NYC they noticed the nodule growing in his posterior neck again. At this point he began receiving infusions. After this treatment Scott started with some back pain, which could have been a side effect of the medication. For those that knew Scott know that he pushed through things and kept smiling! Over the course of a few weeks the pain became worse. They tried many OTC treatments, physical therapy and rest. When the pain continued the Dr decided it was time to do a bone scan and CT's to rule out metastasis.

On June 21st Scott and Erin received the dreaded phone call that  no one wants to get! The cancer has spread to his ribs, spine, pelvis, left leg, spleen and kidney. The average time from what they were told was 8-15 months. Scott fought long and hard and never gave up. Erin, his family, and his friends were by his side every step of the way. Unfortunately on Monday, August 28th 2017 at 20:40 hours Scott left this world. He was 41 years young, and leaves behind a wife and 6 young kids.

Scott and Erin have dedicated their lives to helping others. Scott started his journey working as a physical therapist and Emergency Medical Technician. He later became an SEQ Paramedic, and finally made his dream come true when he earned a position as a flight Paramedic in Mercy Flight Central. Erin was an Emergency room Registered Nurse, that later became a flight nurse at Mercy Flight Central, and is now the Program Director.

Throughout this journey they have inspired us all with their optimistm, love, and persistence in fighting cancer. Erin has lost her soul mate and now has to manage a household of 6 young kids, while working full time. Please lets come together once more and help Erin as she tackles the new challenges ahead!
