Forestlings need a classroom!

Hello, I'm Liz and I have been working hard to prepare a space on our land for children to join our education in nature project.

The goal of our project Forestlings, is to connect homeschooling families in the natural environment, to support their learning process and create an alternative education community within the local area. We aim to provide project based learning with bilingual tutors (Portuguese/English), free play in the natural environment and extra curricular activities for children between the ages of 4 and 10 years. As well as activities and events for our wider community.

The education space is located within our family farm where we are slowly developing a food forest and wish to live more sustainably in connection with nature.

So far we have installed a mud kitchen, climbing space, veggie garden, wild garden, berry bushes and we have also gathered a lot of materials to build a cosy classroom and covered kitchen. We still have some quite important materials needed for the construction, including; roofing, straw and clay for the walls and the extras, eg, glue, screw, treatments etc.

 

We estimate the cost at approximately 1500 Euro. If we exceed the total needed for the structure, the remaining funds will go towards creating some climbing structures for play.

Olá, sou Liz e tenho trabalhado muito para preparar um espaço em nossa terra para as crianças se juntarem a nós em nosso projeto de educação na natureza.

O objetivo do nosso projeto Forestlings é conectar famílias que estudam em casa no ambiente natural, para apoiar seu processo de aprendizagem e criar uma comunidade de educação alternativa dentro da área local. Pretendemos proporcionar aprendizagem baseada em projetos com tutores bilingues (português/inglês), brincadeiras livres no ambiente natural e atividades extracurriculares para crianças dos 4 aos 10 anos. Bem como atividades e eventos para nossa comunidade em geral.

O espaço educacional está localizado dentro de nossa fazenda familiar, onde estamos desenvolvendo lentamente uma floresta de alimentos e desejamos viver de forma mais sustentável em conexão com a natureza.

Até agora, instalamos uma cozinha de barro, espaço para escalar, horta, jardim selvagem, arbustos de frutas silvestres e também reunimos muitos materiais para construir uma sala de aula aconchegante e uma cozinha coberta. Ainda temos alguns materiais bastante importantes necessários para a construção, incluindo; cobertura, palha e barro para as paredes e os extras, ex: cola, parafuso, tratamentos etc.

Estimamos o custo em aproximadamente 1500 euros. Se excedermos o total necessário para a estrutura, os fundos restantes irão para a criação de algumas estruturas de escalada para brincar.
