My mother and best friend Forenda is a kind and loving 49-year old woman who unfortunately was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer by MD Anderson Cancer Center of Jacksonville, after a first-time mammogram. Everyone who knows Forenda knows that she has a warm and approachable spirit, even with strangers. Forenda’s mother was a Registered Nurse and raised her to always approach life and people with love and compassion, especially those with disabilities or have chronic medical conditions. Forenda recently changed her professional career with American Express Travel to pursue her intended career with Molina Healthcare and achieve her educational goals in the medical field like her mother. Unfortunately helping others could no longer be at the top of her priority list after her diagnosis with a rapid growth of Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer.
The streak of sad news did not stop at the diagnosis of cancer, shortly after, Forenda was laid off from work and is facing a loss of active healthcare insurance that will resort to her having to pay extreme amounts for individual COBRA premiums of $467 per month for the ongoing medical care. Two weeks after her routine mammogram, her doctor suggested immediate care and stereotactic biopsies. The test results would show she has a tumor mass growing at an accelerating rate and can double in size every 23 to 209 days. The doctors at Baptist Medical Center suggested a full mastectomy with a possibility of bilateral mastectomy, pending BRCA gene test results.
Forenda is scheduled for surgery in Jacksonville on November 8, 2017, where she will undergo a 3-part surgical procedure with an expected 6-8 months of recovery time, all while facing challenges of finding employment again. Since her diagnosis, despite the help of health insurance, Forenda’s medical bills along with the everyday necessities of life have been accumulating.
Forenda is one of the most selfless and loving woman anyone would have the pleasure to encounter. She is a driven woman by displaying fruitage of the spirit and practicing humility, all while keeping a sense of optimism, faith, and hope.
