Force 2020

Tax deductible
October 9, 2020 the Georgia Force played its last home game at Gary Pirkle Park.  You see, over that weekend our sweet park was flooded and destroyed.  We are all heartbroken to loose our field and home that we all so dearly loved.

Friday night the rain had already started.  In fact, it rained most of our last home game.  The rain was never-ending.  Friday through Saturday it just rained.  The rain saturated the ground and caused the wet lands to begin to flood.  Creeks began to raise and the water rose.  It rose so high that the water reached the top of the pavilion.

The water seeped under the turf, pushed it up and caused deep waves through out the field.  The floods also pushed our container off its framework and ruined most of all our equipment including pads, medical/tool kits, helmets, tables, the sound system, practice gear, uniforms, game day equipment, all three of our benches, the trailer, our game day cart and so much more.

And this flood arrives right after, or in the midst of surviving Covid.  Because of covid the Force lost its regular spring season.  However, we pressed on and had 2-weeks of ZOOM "practice." The volunteer Board and Coaches believed so deeply in fighting for the Force family that we pressed on.  We pressed on despite Covid and despite the park closing due to covid and despite no spring season and despite losing almost all our games and our league.  We prayed and trusted and moved forward.  And so far, no covid outbreak.  We were able to find replacement games and are on the path to play in the Championship bracket at Panama City in Florida.

Our coaches, despite not being able to truly recruit a line, brought the best out of our players and secured a line and D.  We all fought hard as a community, team and family.

We don't have a practice field.  Our practices are having to be cut short due to the lack of lights and our last 2-home games (Homecoming and Senior night) hang in the balance.  You see, those 2 games are 2 of our most effective for funds being raised, to support the team's budget.  And now we are searching for a field to host us, a local field.

There is so much to be thankful for, starting with the City of Sugar Hill who opened Gary Pirkle Park, back in June and said yes, come practice, 10 in a group following CDC covid policy.  They said yes!  Because of the City of Sugar Hill, we were one of very few teams, who had "normal" who had football.  And when the call came in, that the field was destroyed, I was devastated.  And so was the City.  They were heartbroken for the Force and the 2 other programs who call, Gary Pirkle Park, home.

I'm sadden that our seniors will miss their last 2 home games, one being their senior night.  I'm sadden I won't be able to watch my team practice there anymore.  That field wasn't just about football.  And yes, I do love football.  That field and that park brought together families, built community, gave birth to athletes, provided freedom and built memories.  This loss isn't just about or sad for the Force but for all those who love that Park.  Yes, it'll be back but until then we have to find a new field, replace thousands of dollars of equipment and go win a Championship.

I'll be posting flood pictures on our Facebook page and other social media outlets.
