Mindanao, the southernmost island, is one of the poorest areas of the Philippines. Many residents live in sub-standard housing without plumbing and running water, bathrooms, or kitchen facilities. Dwellings are not earthquake ready or resistant. Your donation will help them recover from recent damage to housing and other facilities and with any supplies or medical care needed. Manila, a city of 12 million, has the worst traffic in the world and more people per mile than any other city in the world, including Manhattan. It is home to 4 million in the slums alone. The average per capita income of a Filipino is about $3500 American (versus about $55,000 in the US). According to the latest CIA data, 25% - 1 out of 4 - of Filipinos live under the poverty level (compared to 15% in the US). According to Stratfor, outside of Manila's 4+ affluent districts, 98% of the nation lives close to the poverty level, driving about 10 million Filipinos to other nations and into a lonely life of labor and service supporting their families. Perhaps the potential influence of this 'scattering' effect is why prophetic minister Sadhu Selvaraj describes the Philippines as having the highest destiny among all nations, except for Israel.
The ‘retirement plan’ in developing nations is often to have children that support you in old age. Two Filipinos we know have supported their family since the age of 12 and 17. Primacy for donations will be given to spiritually-focused, goal oriented individuals seeking to raise their standard of living along with those around them. Specifically, donations will be used to support individuals and families in the areas of essential daily needs and services, health, education, entrepreneurial endeavors, and the like.
5% of funds goes to GoFundMe; banks take an addition of almost 5% when money is transferred into accounts where it can be put to use.
