For the Love of Olivia

Dear Friends and Family, I am sharing this link, because I am hopeful you will support a family that is in need and a cause that is near and dear to my heart. If you are a Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Aunt, Uncle, you know the overwhelming joy and immense love a new child brings to your family or community.

If you've had a sick child, or a child with special needs, you also know the heaviness of pain and worry that weighs on your heart as you embark on a journey filled with many unknowns, doctors visits, medical costs, tears, and of course triumphs.

Today I ask that you donate, if you can, any amount to support Jen, Richard, and Sweet Baby Olivia. Olivia was born October 4th and entered the world with a bang (imagine laboring and intense contractions along 60 miles of traffic and highway)!!! From the moment she was born, Olivia held a special place in my heart.

Soon after her birth, Olivia's family  learned that she had 2 holes in her tiny heart. Once she is strong enough, this will require open heart surgery. Coupled with low oxygen levels, and many other stresses to her fragile body, Olivia continues to fight!  Olivia's health problems are caused by a chromosomal disorder that  will require a life time of special care, doctors, therapies, and costs. I asked myself, what can I do to help this family?

Olivia and her family hold a special place in my heart, because I too have had my darkest and heaviest moments, while holding my two newborn girls (first Bowen and then Mary) in my arms. Feeling this fear, can bring a family and Mother to a lonely and hopeless place.  I don't want this family to walk this journey alone.  They need to feel surrounded by love and community, just as we did when our daughters were born and we faced many  unknowns.

I know we can't heal Sweet Olivia, but we can help ease the financial burden this brings to her family, so that her Mom and Dad can take the time needed to bring Olivia home. And so they can wrap her in love as she heals from her surgery, in her Mother's arms. My hope is that they can do all of this without lingering financial stress.
