For the Love of Lee

Please help Lee Walton

Our dear friend Lee, has unfortunately been diagnosed with breast cancer. Her initial symptom of a lump appeared less than 2 months ago. Her mammogram showed an initial diagnosis of the tumor as “suspicious for malignancy” and subsequent ultrasound and core biopsy revealed Stage I Breast Cancer, with a size 1.5cm mass.

On August 31, 2018, Lee underwent surgical removal of her breast mass and is recovering well. Unfortunately, the actual malignant tissue excised during surgery was 5cm in size and pathology determined that Lee has Stage II Cancer.

The irony of Lee's disease is that she now finds herself in the shoes of the thousands of individuals whom she’s helped fight this same battle. Having worked her entire professional career in the medical field – as a CNA, CMA and CRC – Lee spends her days alongside the army of professionals who dedicate themselves to fighting cancer, improving patient outcomes, and most importantly caring for and supporting their patients.

As an honored and loved member of San Luis Obispo’s medical community, Lee has dedicated her 22 year long career to this field – most recently as a Clinical Research Coordinator where she plays a critical role in clinical trials that will ultimately provide for better care for cancer patients, and lead to greater prevention and remission of cancers.

Lee is the person you want on your team if you have cancer, but today, Lee needs our support.

While she is insured and has the Oncology "Dream Team" saving her life, not all costs are covered. According to the American Cancer Society, out of pocket expenses for insured breast cancer patients can range from $10,000 to $70,000. None of us could afford that huge financial burden without help.

Lee is a single mother and an exceedingly hard working professional who prides herself on being financially independent. That said, she lives "week-to-week" as many other professionals in this area do. She is not alone – please help Lee ease the burden of the expenses she’s incurring to fight the disease she is destined to beat.

"A Friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and gently allows you to grow". William Shakespeare .

. .. well said William, a perfect description of our Lee.
