Chupa, choopies, choopa-loopa - our first baby, saved from neglect, had come to be known as the South Charlotte CrossFit mascot.
Always smiling, mild mannered, loving, STRONG. This girl loves all and is thankful to be given the life she has, romping the woods of Weaverville. It is not uncommon for her to stay out at night with her brother Diesel - but when Chupa didn't come home for a few days, we began to worry.
We posted everywhere we could think of, calling for her day and night, searching the mountains for her. Then Thursday morning, we found her, struggling so hard to get up our road, back to her family. The relief came across her face when she saw her mom! but Chupa was very badly injured. Her back left foot was mangled, bones broken in more places then you could imagine.
We rushed her to REACH Animal Hospital in Asheville, where we came to find that the X-ray showed bird shot pellets. Chupa was shot, at close range. How could this happen? Who would do this?
The only thing keeping us from letting the anger take over completely- aside from the relief that she was FOUND, is the thought... the HOPE that whoever did this to her - may have mistaken her for a coyote, or some other predator... how can any human shoot a helpless lost doggie??
The damage is centralized, and the infection did not become systemic - but her foot was so badly injured, that it can not be saved. She will need to have an above-the-knee amputation to save her. Pups are resilient. She will persevere. She will be loved. She will be the cutest tripod pup ever....
We have been asked by many friends about a way to ehlp Chupa. The staggering quote for surgery and care is upwards of $5,000. If you feel moved to help, it will be forever appreciated.
