For the love of Chocolate (a Pit Bull)

Donation protected
Ms. Chocolate is in need of a life saving surgery for a distended intestine with a mass near her colon.   Ever since I adopted her from the Sacramento SPCA in 2008, fun-loving Chocolate has been my loyal companion.

Over the last 12 years Chocolate has been an ambassador for Pit Bulls, my co-teacher for SPCA's Camp Kindness program, my model dog for SPCA Basic Obedience Class orientations, and my doggie model for custom sized clothing I sew for Pit Bulls and other large/hard to fit dogs through my Etsy store, Groovy Doggy (which has helped to support many foster dogs).  This girl knows how to pose and has the best smile!

Chocolate appeared on the cover of RedRover's Companion Magazine (Winter 2018), being featured in an article about how she has supported me in using the empathy based RedRover Reader program with my elementary school students at the Title 1 school where I teach.  She also appears with some of my students in a video about the RedRover Reader program , which was done as a parody of the humane education award winning book "Buddy Unchained."  The video is titled "One Boy's Journey of Social Awareness."

During the shut down of California schools due to the Covid Pandemic, Chocolate starred in a video for my students about speaking in complete sentences  and extending those sentences with extra details!

Chocolate has always been a "talker" and her most popular video on YouTube , "Whining Pit Bull... Chocolate is Bored 2/6/11", has received over 180,000 views!

After all Chocolate has done in her life to help educate so many about loving, caring for, rescuing, and building relationships with pets, she deserves to live out her remaining years in comfort!!  Between 2 surgeries for a cancerous tumor on her paw last year (ultimately having 2 toes removed), an expensive visit to the ER vet earlier this year when she had a bout of Old Dog Vestibular Syndrome, and this week's vet care and diagnostics related to her current condition (which requires surgery), plus having to buy a new computer and accessories out of my own pocket so I could teach from home during Covid-inspired Distance Learning, I have maxed out my credit card and can't afford to pay for the life saving surgery Chocolate needs.

It breaks my heart to even consider having to put her down because I have run out of financial resources, and that is why I have started this, my first ever, GoFundMe fundraiser.  I will be eternally grateful for every penny received to help me save my most loyal and extra loving companion.  Her rescued canine siblings  will be grateful as well!
