A year ago, our lives changed upon learning we had a six-month-old grandson named Abe living in foster care. Our daughter Shanel has been diagnosed with a mental disorder and refuses any medical assistance. It has put her in a very sad situation of living on the streets. We had no contact with her until seven months ago when she gave birth to another baby named Kali.
Both babies were in a foster home until July 28th when the foster family decided to terminate their care. DSHS asked us to take them into our home; we opened our door and our hearts to these two beautiful children, but it has not been the easiest transition. The state has not followed through on many promises they made to assist us in caring for the babies, which has placed a significant financial burden on us with no time to prepare. The daycare recommended to us turned into a nightmare of neglect and poor care for the kids. We removed them from this facility, which forced Joe to stay home from work and take care of the kids while we looked for new childcare. We just placed Abe, but most daycares will not accept Kali until she becomes a year old. We are not sure how soon we can get her placed so that Joe may return to work.
We truly believe these babies should be with family and desperately want to care for them. It is very difficult for us to ask for and admit that we need help, but your generosity would immensely alleviate the financial struggles we are facing and help us change these babies’ lives for the better. Both children have been affected by harmful drugs in the womb and need medical care and attention. But more than anything, Abe and Kali need clothes, books, toys, diapers, and love just like any other babies. We so appreciate the support we have received from friends and family, including financial aid and assistance with childcare. Please consider supporting us so that we can continue to provide the care for the babies and a roof over their heads.
