For Serafina

Melissa Martin was loved by everyone in her life. She was selfless, devoted, caring, funny, smart, and everything good in this world. She always put others before herself, which even reflected in her career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Last December she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and after months of putting up a good fight, she passed away on September 8, 2018. She leaves behind Matt, an amazing husband and father of their adorable 2 year old daughter Serafina. Since Serafina's birth, Matt put his education on hold in order to care for her full time, while Melissa continued her career.

Serafina aka "Nugget" or "Ragnar" was Melissa's pride and joy. She could never get over how cute she was. It is heartbreaking to know that Serafina will not have the chance to get to know her mother, but I'm sure Matt and everyone close to them will fill her heart with stories of her mother. Serafina is both the unluckiest and luckiest girl in the world. Even though her time with Melissa was cut incredibly too short, Serafina had the best mom in the world.

This GoFundMe page is 100% dedicated to Serafina's future. All money raised will go directly to Serafina's college education. I, her cousin Lindsay, will actually be opening a 529 education plan for her, so the account will be open until Serafina needs it for college. Therefore, if you would like to contribute in the future you may do so at any point in the next 16 years. It comforted Mel to know that Serafina and Matt still had an army of loved ones who would be there for them.
