For Rosie, Steven, John & FASD Awareness SE

Donation protected
As you’ll all know by now, John Henderson, who was affectionately known as Spider, died on the 19th May 2019 aged 47. John made a huge impact on many of our lives over the years and it would be lovely if something positive could come out of such a tragic situation.

John has three beautiful children, Rosie, Steven & John, who he hadn’t had contact with for many years. Two of his children have Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), his daughter Rosie is mildly affected while one of his sons Steven has severe impairments and will never be able to live independently. Both Rosie and Steven are ambassadors for FASD Awareness South East, an amazing charity whose aim is to promote awareness of FASD in a positive way, by educating all about the irreversible, lifelong impact that drinking alcohol during pregnancy may cause to an unborn baby, as well as providing support, education and resources on the condition to parents, carers, health professionals, teachers, justice professionals and service providers.

It would be lovely for his children to know that despite their Dad’s flaws, and he had many (he was the first to admit them), there wasn’t a day that passed where he didn’t think about them and regret how things had turned out. John wasn’t able to look after himself properly let alone give them what they needed and deserved. It would be lovely for the people of West Hampstead to be able to show them solidarity and to let them know they were very much loved and how much their Dad meant to our community. If it eases their pain just a little it’ll be worth while and I know it’s something that John would have wanted.

I’m a local community member in West Hampstead, NW6. I had known John for almost 15 years as I passed him most days by the Thameslink bridge where he sold his books. For the past couple of years I attend various drug/alcohol support appointments and looked after his dog Sugar whilst he was in hospital. The community wish to show their love for John by raising money for his three children and FASD SE Awareness charity. The money raised by the community will be split equally 4 ways between John’s three children and the FASD charity, providing his children with financial relief whilst they try to come to terms with their loss and for the FASD charity to continue with their amazing and important work. I will be personally withdrawing these funds and then making equal direct payments to each of John’s three children and FASD SE Awareness charity.

This page will be shut down a week after John’s memorial service which is on Saturday 22nd June at 4pm at Emmanuel Church, NW6. His family invite the community to join them in saying goodbye to John
