For Pediatric Specialty Care!

Donation protected
I've seen a lot of patients throughout my residency and honestly a lot of the faces blur. Let me tell you about the ones that stand out.

I had the privilege of visiting Pediatric Specialty Care (PSC), a long-term care facility for children with medical, social, and emotional needs. Nathan* met me at the door and grabbed my hand, his Blues Clues backpack holding his feeding tube formula flapping behind him. He pulled me into the living room (of sorts) to where several other, less mobile, kids were gathered in their wheelchairs. Jared* greeted us with a huge smile... and then promptly desaturated and needed suctioning. He was a normal healthy 8 year-old until he was hit by a car and had injuries so severe he could not be taken care of at home. He has been at PSC for several months but those months will likely turn into years.

PSC is all Jordan* knows. Born with gastroschisis, he underwent multiple surgeries which were unfortunately unable to correct the defect. The caring members of Lawall prosthetics custom molded a plastic belly shield which now (and his skin) is the only barrier between Jordan's gastrointestinal tract and the outside world. Jordan is now 6 and, outside of his time in the hospital, he has lived and been taken care of at PSC full-time.

There are too many more stories to tell but I hope you can see why these children have stuck in my memory. The recent holiday season really put things into perspective for me as well. All the kids of my friends and family were receiving gifts and love in abundance - what about the kids at PSC?

The point of this campaign is to raise money for toys and medical equipment (standers, walkers, Bumbos, etc.) for the kids at the Philadelphia Pediatric Speciality Care. Extra money will go toward the PSC in Point Pleasant, PA.

The toys and supplies will be purchased by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The residents will bring the toys and spend the day with the kids, hopefully providing the love and support the kids deserve.

Our target date is February 24th, 2018. No contribution is too small! Thank you!
