***UPDATE***

Kiarn’s funeral, for those that would like to attend, will be held on Monday, 23rd Dec at 9.30am.
It will be held at C3 church, 2 Dreadnought Rd (Cnr Wakehurst parkway) Oxford Falls.
Following the service, we will head to Northern Suburbs Crematorium.
As Kiarn was such a colourful character, we are asking for no black to be worn. Kiarn’s favourite colour was green, so we’d like to see as much green as possible.
Kiarn was enrolled to study community services this coming year, as he was determined to work with troubled youths. We would rather, in lieu of flowers, that attendees make a donation to a related fund of their choice, or abstain altogether.

Every parent’s nightmare has suddenly become a reality for our dear friend Nicky…she has lost her youngest son Kiarn to suicide. He was 19.

As many of you know, Nicky is a single mum with three other children (two still at home).  This tragic event is further compounded by the complexity of having to bring Kiarn home from QLD to Sydney, for his final resting place. Funeral costs, flights to retrieve Kiarn, loss of earnings…the financial burden is easy to calculate.

Nicky has always had a smile for everyone, a fix for anything broken and has shared her time so generously. This time, she needs our help. As if this terrible event wasn’t bad enough as it is, the fact that it’s so close to Christmas brings another layer of sorrow, particularly for Kiarn’s brothers and sister (Kye, Caleb and Chi Chi).

Any donation, however small, will make a difference, not only in easing the financial burden but in showing Nicky and her family how much love and support surrounds them at this challenging time.

Here are some words from Nicky:

Our baby boy Kiarn has been very troubled for some time. I’m not sure if you were aware, but Kiarn had high functioning autism. He had things going on his head that gave him so much pain. I was his best friend, and the only person he really confided in.

Raising four kids and paying a huge mortgage alone, with no financial assistance was always tricky. This last year, with Kiarn’s growing demands, I was forced to take more and more time off work to spend time concentrating on Kiarn, trying to teach him independence. I became further and further behind in my mortgage and bills.

Kiarn grew into an amazing man and was the kindest, most thoughtful boy you could ever meet. All the girls in his social circle would approach him for advice, and he enjoyed helping anyone he could.
He had plans and was enrolled to study this year, to become a social worker with troubled youth and I believe he would have made an amazing social worker. He had so much to give. He had the biggest heart.

Unfortunately, he received a disappointing call on Monday morning, and was unable to cope. He went out for a walk and never returned. He’d been struggling for a long while, and had spoken or attempted suicide a few times. Each time, I managed to convince him of his reasons to live, or find professional help to do so.

After his suicide attempt on Thursday night, my beautiful partner Adam had organised for him to have a weeks’ worth of intensive therapy in QLD.  Kiarn came to stay with his big brother Kye in QLD, who took leave from the army to look after him and drive him to his appointments. He was only a couple of hours away from starting his important therapy to help him, when Kiarn, as he often did, went out for a quick walk. He never returned.

Kye went out searching for him all day in 42 degree heat. He found him hours later in bushland close by, and he had just been cut down by council workers. As if it wasn’t bad enough for him to see his brother in that state, he then had to call both his mum and dad to tell them the bad news.

I’m up in QLD at Kye’s house at the moment while we make arrangements to get him home. I’m not leaving here without him. I also need to get Kye and his girlfriend back to Sydney too.

Hardest fucking day of my life.
