For my HS student who has a toddler

I have a Senior in my AP Italian class who is loveable and kind and bright.  For nearly all of the first semester, she showed up half-way through my class or more often, skipped it entirely.  This class is first period, so you have to arrive by 7:10 a.m.

I looked into the situation, and discovered that she is a mother, of a beautiful two year old little girl.  I sat her down and said,
"Look, Lia.  The mom in me is like, 'absolutely, your allegiance is to your family and your daughter' but the educator in me is like, 'c'mon Lia, you have to graduate and you are so capable, you just have to make a little more effort and you'll make it work, I know it's so much but I totally believe in you." 

For awhile, she started to come much more! However, recently, it has been backsliding.  I found her in the hall later in the day on Monday, and I asked her what was up.  She revealed that she is enormously stressed, because her car broke down and she has no money to fix it.  She still lives with her parents,  but they are strapped for cash and she needs her car to get to her job to support her daughter.  I gave her a big hug and tears slowly streamed down her face.  I said I was so sorry.  Pretty quickly I realized I wanted, I needed to do more than sympathize.

Let's raise the money to help her pay to fix her car, so she can get to work.  Holding down a job and being a student with a small daughter in High School is already so much to ask of a 17 year old.  She shouldn't have to add this stress to her very full plate. Anything you can give would be such a gift, a gift to her future as a scholar, as a mother, and to her precious daughter.
